bulb spectrum confusion by
[email protected]
I thought that 5000K or 5500K were the proper spectrum for plant tanks.
I've been checking out people's tanks online and they are using
spectrums from 6700K all the way to 9300K. Is there an optimum
spectrum? Right now I'm running a 27 watt 5500K and a 9 watt 5000K
bulbs on my 12 gallon.

Zeolite as substrate? by
Duf
Somebody told me I could use zeolite as a complete substrate for my planted
tanks. Since Terralit is made mainly from zeolite, IMHO it is a not so bad,
relatively cheap alternative to laterite or other high-cost commercial
substrate. Does anybody have any experience to confirm this?

Is the Pothos plant okay for freshwater aquariums?{Ozdude] by
Papa Red
I know that I have had many Pothos plants that were just stuck in
different glass or ceramic containers filled with water sitting outside,
and every now and then I would carefully pour the liquid into a large
container that also has some water in it,
and then I let everything settle, and when it...

Papa Red
I have tons of these plants that not only are growing all over in my
neighbourhood, it is treated like a weed and pulled out of the ground
and thrown away. Thanks for any information that you can supply me with
about this plant, and any other kinds of plants that I might find
growing here on Miami...

new planted tank--help w/ setup by
MrsMarsig
I'm planning on converting my 29 gallon tank to a planted tank. I've
sketched out a layout with some plant species and am wondering if these
plants and this layout will do good in my tank conditions.

pH somewhere above 7.5 (off my chart)

Ca++:Mg++ ratio, possible Mg++ overdose by
[email protected]
Hi folks,
Since I stopped using Kent's mystery GH reagent, I've used Greg's CaCl2
and MgSO4 to tinker with my GH. However, I may just have made a
colossal boo-boo. To wit:
My tapwater is about 1 dGH. I up it to circa 4 dGH by dissolving the
Ca and Mg compounds hereinbefore mentioned. These...

What is Pealing? by

I could not find a single, concrete definition of the term "pearling."
Please correct any of the following:
"Pearling" refers to the formation of visible O2 bubbles on a plant's
leaves.
The plant normally produces O2 during photosynthesis, although it
"normally" dissolves into the water.
