Java Moss by
Jeff
Does anyone have an excess of java moss that they'd be willing to
share? I'd order online, but most outfits have a minimum order fee,
which would entail way more plants than my little eclipse can handle.
Please contact me if you have some extra java moss. I'd be willing to
pay the shipping, and...

Snail magnet ? by
George Pontis
I am using a Hagen/Nutrafin bubble ladder in a 37G planted tank. Lately I have
been increasing the CO2 levels to get from about 9ppm to 15-20. pH is around 7.
It seems that snails are attracted to the higher CO2 / lower pH environment. I am
finding a lot of snails around the top of the ladder,...

pH probe calibration by
Nikki Casali
It's a month since I started using a permanent pH probe to control my
tank's CO2 injections. The probe being used is made by AquaMedic. At the
the first calibration I used buffer solutions 7 and 10. The instructions
say to use 7 and 9. I used the 10 instead to adjust the calibration
curve. The...

Ugly aquarium grass, and what fish to put in a small aquarium by
robin
Hi,
I've got an Eclipse System 3 that I set up in November for my betta
(which was in a very small bowl). As an aquarium newbie, I love the
Eclipse - very quiet, easy to set up, and small enough to fit on my
desk.
Anyway, after running the aquarium with plants but no fish for a couple
of weeks,...

how to keep the yeast warm by
Allyb
Hi, just thought I'd share a little trick I've discovered. I've never come
across anything about this, and if anyone who reads this has, I'd love to
have the link.
I live in central Florida, and my 55g aquarium is on an porch which is
enclosed, but not heated or cooled. Of course I heat the...

Eco-Complete vs. Flourite by
bottom feeder
This may have come up before, but which is better? I'm re-doing my 20
gallon and I'm debating which to get. The local Petsmart has Flourite,
but the Eco-Complete I'd have to mail order. How many bags will be
needed for a 20 gallon high (12"X24")?
Also, here's how I intend to plant it:
Hornwort,...

new to plants by
Craig
Hi all, im new to plants in the aquarium (the uk has a tradition of UG
filters, so plants are a no no)
But, ive just set up a new (bloody snail free) tank, 30 gallons, fitted
a big clip on filter and am looking to get some plants.
I have had a look around the news groups and it seems that...

explosive growth, pH crash, what happened? by
LM
Hi,
i've had a planted tank for about 3 years now. over the past year, most of
my plants died off (ozelot, crypts, etc), and the two remaining amazon
swords were looking pretty wan, and i had expced it to completely die off
leaving the tank just with anubius and java fern. since only the...

substrate for potted plants by
K Byers
I'm considering planting some aquatic plants in pots or in "planting rocks"
(from the Foster & Smith catalog).
I wish I had responded with this question last week when someone wrote that
plants get most of their nutrients from the water.
Can I put just plain aquarium gravel in these pots, or...

IceCap Ballast? by
Nikki Casali
Is this the holy grail of electronic fluorescent ballasts?
http://www.aquadirect.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=907&cat=340&page=12
Anyone ever used one? I'd like to use it to power 4x24W T5 bulbs and
also to simulate sunrise and sunset.
With the current exchange rate I can't go...

Algae damn by
steve
Topic says it all. I'm in a life or death struggle with algae in my
big tank. The two twentys are in fine shape. The cork tank is newly
set up, the honeymoon suite, now nursery, is also clean and brite.
The 55g, now that's another story. It's been going the longest, has
the highest fish load,...

What to do with anubius overgrowth? by
LM
Hi,
I have an anubius barteri (?) that I planted along a 10-inch driftwood about
3 years ago. Now the plant has grown the entire length of the driftwood,
and is running out of rooting space (starting to reach towards the gravel).
The older leaves have gone through some algae overgrowth/SAE...

Another how much light question? by
John >
I just purchased an 850g aquarium that is 3' 6" high, The fw.misc group
thinks that the "watts per gallon" rule doesn't count in an aquarium of that
size. I think my biggest concern is the height of the tank.
I plan on growing average Wisconsin Pond weeds (oops) plants. Milfoil (not
eurasion)...

Excel by
Kay
I always thought if the algae can't consume it. And I always add a
section of fast growing plants. If the algae can't consume it dies away.
At least thats what happned to all my tanks from 55 gallons to 10 gallon
tanks. Which is why I still use it years later.
