Black brush algae..excess phosphates? by
[email protected]
I have been battling BBA for a while now in my 55 gallon freshwater
tank. I know that excess phosphates are one contibuting factor.
Untill recently I was unable to find a test to tell me what my
phosphate levels were.
Well, I finally found a phosphate test and it says that the phosphate
levels...

Java Fern/Moss by
PiperJason
Hey all, I've been lurking around here a few days and now I have a
question about the plants in my tank. For starters all I have is a 2.5
gal tank with one betta in it lit by a 20watt halogen desk lamp. I have
water sprites and some other kind of floating plant covering a good
part of the tank...

Black Brush and green algae problems. by
.D.E.
I recently redid my substrate last may and replaced it with the Black
Oceanic substrate. It looks great and haven't had many problems. I tried to
remove any Malaysian trumpet snail eggs from the plants. Now the snails are
back, quite a few. Usually 2 every inch of substrate. I have noticed...

Tank Cycling Strategy by
Harry Muscle
I'm close to being ready to get my 55G planted tank up and running, which
means it's time to figure out how I'm gonna cycle it as well as the
quarantine tank, and how/when to introduce the first fish, etc. So I'm
wondering if I could get some feedback about what I'm thinking of doing
(it's sort of...

What Can I Legally Say? by
Nsty N8
Hello
I received BAD service from an online plant dealer. The site was incorrect
about what they had in stock, the plants were shipped 2 weeks late and they
won't respond to my emails or phone calls. I also received melted plants.
What can I say or write without getting myself sued.

Basic chemistry question by
Nemo
What water chemistry parameters would you ideally want in a planted tank?
pH, kH and gH?
My kH is very low, about 3 dKh causing pH swings. I want to minimise raising
the pH. What is the minimum kH needed to maintain a reasonably stable pH?
Thanks

Loach recommendation for small planted tank by
Victor Martinez
Hi. I used to have B. striata in my 20g long planted tank (fluorite
substrate), but I moved them to the big tank. Now I have too many snails
in the little tank, so I'm thinking of adding 1-3 small loaches to be
permanent residents. Which species would you recommend? The tank has 4
species of shrimp...

Questions about Java Moss by
Gerry
I have a 90 gallon that I got 2nd-hand complete with 3 gigantic java ferns
and some amazon sword.
I've been reading that java moss looks pretty on logs, and I was thinking of
adding some. But many LFS (Toronto/Mississauga - Canada) don't stock it,
and one even suggested that it's a pest and...

Harvesting azolla by

My dam has red azolla (azolla filiculoides) which is a native floating

compost. I imagine there are several tons of the stuff. The question is how
to gather it. A net scoop would work around the edges but this sounds...
