Bogwwod. by
Chris
Been all afternoon with bogwood in pans of boiling water to try and
remove brown colour. Anything you can use to seal the bogwwod. Like
clear varnish but not effect the water when in the tank.
Thanks,
Chris.

Potassium Permanganate... by
Marcus Fox
Where can I buy this as crystals or solution in the UK? I doubt it's readily
available as crystals as they can be mixed with sugar to make an improvised
explosive. Mind you, I guess they can be re-crystallised from solution too.

hair algae on plants by
Cammie
some time ago someone here helped me identify the type of hair algae I have
growing around the ridges of my plants. This person also said how to remove
this type of algae from heaters, intake tubes and other removable things in
the tank that this hair has overrun. They said to use bleach. Can...

CO2 questions - Toronto sources by
Bill Stock
I just made up my second batch of CO2 and it was a dud. Given the cost of
sugar/yeast/time, I'm seriously considering going bottled. Could someone
give me a heads up on renting vs. buying a cylinder and the best place to
get a regulator/refills. I was lurking over in rec.crafts.brewing and...

Good place to start... by
Desmond Wong
Hi all.
I was recommended here from my LFS to start looking at plants for my tank.
Are there any good places on the web to see different "species" and work
from there? I have a 20g tank (2' tank) and although it is planted at the
moment, I have a problem as the plants I have are growing quite...

do SAEs often eat less algae as they get bigger? by
Dave M. Picklyk
I've had SAEs in my tank over and over again. They are awesome for cleaning
out hair algae. I know it's a small tank, only 15 gallons, but I usually
have 2-3 anyways. They are never aggressive and co-exist peacefully with my
school of Harlequin Rasboras. They get really huge in a few months and...

Which T8 bulbs in DIY hood by
Matt C.
Hi all,
I just built a 30" light strip for my 29G tank. It holds 3 24" T8 bulbs
with a parabolic reflector built in, and a remote electronic ballast. I am
looking to find out what is the best combination to sufficiently light my
plants and show off my fish. I have a moderate to heavily planted
tank...

New Tank Blues by
kush
I don't know if anyone remembers me at this list, I've been offline
for a year or so. At any rate, after many, many years of vociferously
advocating the UGF-school of natural planted aquaria, I've decided to
cross-over and TRY a high-tech tank for myself.
The tank's been up for ten days and BOY,...

Plant question. by
Chris
Bought a few plants from a lfs. Each plant is planted in a small plastic
basket with holes, inside that is a piece of sponge I think. I was
suprised when the salesman said don't forget to take the plants out of
the basket before you plant them, otherwise you have a problem with them
rooting.
I...

controlling CO2 levels by

Hello.
I have a 2l DIY Coke bottle reactor for CO2 in my 24" tank. It is
attached to an airstone, and small to fine bubbles are coming from it.
A lot of the bubbles rise to the surface but a lot go swirling around
the tank and plants. The ones rising to the surface often stay as
bubbles just...

Adding plants to existing 20G tank? by

I have a cycled 20G tank (high) that currently has some Java Fern and
hornwort thriving. Substrate is plain gravel 1 inch deep.
Since I'd like to add rooted plants what would be the best way to
proceed? Do I add flourite to the existing gravel bed to build it up
or can I plant the new plants in...
