need to harden water because of snail...calcium carbonate? by
Dave M. Picklyk
Hi! My snail is losing it's shell and I think it's because of my water
hardness. My KH hovers around 9-10 and my PH is 7-7.2. Since most plants do
prefer harder water, so would calcium carbonate be a good additive for the
water?
THanX!
Dave.

Suggestions for freshwater tropicals? by
StarWolf
Hi everyone
It has been a long time since I had a tank around the house. I have a
pond in the back yard with messy old goldfish and mosquito eating
guppies, however, that is not the point.
I have acquired a 50 gallon tank, set it up with plants and rocks, and
now I am ready to start thinking about...

Land Plants in Water by
Jatyn
Hi People,
Has anyone tried to grow land plants in water ?
For ex. I have this lily plant in a soil pot in my drawing room, which
keeps on producing flowers and seeds. I just threw some of those seeds
in my aquarium and now all of them are producing leaves. So just
wondering if the plant will...

Planted Tank inhabitants by
K?Chicago
I have a 75 gallon tank planted with crypts and swords. Fish
inhabitants include Boesmani, Parkinsoni, Yellow and Red Rainbow fish.
Are there any good loaches or small catfish that would be good
tankmates AND will not eat the plants?

nymphoides, hydrocharis for pond by
so238
Hello underwatner gardeners,
I'm planning to plant some false lilies (Nymphoides peltata) or frogbit
(Hydrocharis morsus) in a big tub on my balcony (hopefully with a few
goldfish). From my research either species are native to or have been
naturalized in temperate climates (like the one I live...

What the.. by
guyz
Hello RAFP,
Could anyone please advise on these "bugs" that have
shown up in my tanks? They are about the size of a poppy
seed, shaped like a football, and they cruise about in an
upright position. They seem to be eating the leaves of
plants, leaves that are alive in the case of H....

I'm going to be going on a 10 day vacation in the near future, and need some
type of automated feeder to both feed my fish, and dose my liquid PMDD

Thanks!

DIY: 120W fluorescent, under $75 by
Ethan
I recently built my own light strip for a 55 gal aquarium and I
thought I'd share my plans. I had two goals: lots of light, little
money. Time to completion was about three hours. The materials have
extra left over: the gutter only comes in 10' lenghts, so it is enough
to make two strip lights,...

old DIY CO2 mix + baking soda = ? by
Dave
Folks;
I added some yeast and baking soda to a DIY CO2 mix that's been hooked up
for a couple of weeks and losing its steam, er, CO2. Upon adding the baking
soda, I got quite a bit of fizz. Knowing the mix is acidic and remembering
experiments in school with eye-piercing...

Pothos and planted fish aquarium by
Flatspin
Hello all,
I have a fantastic pothos in my office hanging near my 48G aquarium.
I've started new plants with a clipping and water. I wondered if it
would be safe to drop the end of a pothos clipping in the aquarium near
the heater opening to start a new plant. Call it an experiment, can...
