Lighting by
Craig Brye
I have a 75 gal. tank, as many of you might already know due to previous posts. My plants are starting to grow slightly better. It's been about 9 days since the tank was started, and this will be the fifth day of fertilization.
One thing I'm starting to notice is some of the plants are starting...

liquid organic carbon source a good substitute for CO2?? by
Pww2n74
Greetings,
I just purchased an assortment of plants for my 10 gal. aquarium. In the past
I've used CO2 injection for plants, using the home-made method, but I wanted to
avoid all of that this time. When inquiring at a pet store, one guy pointed out
a product made by SeaChem which substitutes or...

Sera CO2-Start vs Hagen CO2 Natural Plant System by
MorkFromOrk
Hi everyone.
Just wondering if anyone has used the Sera CO2 Start system & what they
think of it. I've been reading a lot of stuff about the Hagen CO2 Natural
Plant System, but I was wondering if someone could compare the two products,
talk about the pros & cons, etc.
Thanks.

How much space does one Java Fern require? In other words how far apart
should I put the plants? Will it grow on Limestone (rock not powder).
I tried Hornwort in the GF tank, but it was gone this morning. Time for Plan

Stems in knots by
xtr396472
I have a plant looks like a fern. 6inch storks with big leaves it
variegated.
When I brought it the newest Leaf shoot still wrapped up had grown out and
then made a tight 1/4 inch circle in the stem near the leaf . The circle is
vertical the Leaf has not opened. A new Leaf has grown nicely but in...

Got CO2 injection system, now where the hell do I get the CO2 tank? by
Albert Owens
Just purchased about $400 worth of CO2 equipment (solenoid, bubble
counter, reactor, ph controller, etc.).
I thought it would be a simple phone call to get a CO2 cannister. The
vendor told me to go to the local fire station. They looked at me like
I was crazy. "What do you want a CO2 cannister...

Plant Growth by
Craig Brye
I just set-up my 75 gal. tank for plants. I have fluorite substrate, 3+watts/gallon, and the temperature is a constant 74-75 degrees. I have pressurized CO2 (KH 3, pH around 6.6-6.7).
The question I have is on plant growth. The other planted tanks I've had seemed to really take off from the get...

Fish recomendation? by
Sam
This may not be the best place to ask, but I am looking for a type of
small fish that will form a tight school in my 30 long tank that I discussed
earlier. Neons aren't tight enough. TIA

cold winter nights by

Hello RAFP
I would appreciate knowing what plants might do
well for me with no heat ... Anacharis...
Ceratophyllum... ? I'm thinking especially of the
smaller types. How about fern/ moss species?
Thanks,
Steve

Dave M. Picklyk
Hi! I hope LeighMo can answer this one for me:
Do the pomacea bridgsii apple snails eat tender hair-fine leaves off plants
such as the ambulia or others? Will they start munching on them if there
isn't enough dead plant material and algae in the aquarium?
thanx alot!!! :)

Kelvin question by
Allyb
I'm only able to get 4100 or 4200 kelvin t8 bulbs locally. I know this
isn't optimal, byt how much will it affect my planted tank? Is it really
worth it to shell out for the aquarium bulbs? -Allison-

Lighting small but deep tank by
Ryan Powers
I'm looking at setting up a small but deep planted tank. A 20 XH to be
exact. This makes it 20" wide and 24" deep.
I'd like to get enough light down towards the bottom that even species
that need a lot of light will be feasible. I figure I can always
paritally shade stuff that's getting too...

Dual T-8 Reflector Design - FREE PLAN by
Greg G.
Greetings,
Folks, from what I've seen, most commercially sold reflectors are
generally a joke designed to separate you from $25-$50.
A flat topped reflector with improperly designed side wings does
little to no good, regardless of the inflated price tag or shininess
of the material it is...

Eco-Complete by
Dances With Ferrets
After hashing around what mix would be optimum for plants.... I
decided on a 50/50 mix of eco-complete and flourite (with a thin layer
of finely-crushed untreated lava stone in the lowest layer of the
gravel bed). The eco-complete has a much finer particle size than the
flourite, so it tends to...
