sole KNO3/K2SO4 treatment...

I have been running my first DIY Yeast CO2 system. I of course did
everything not quite the way discribed:
I used a one gallon plastic milk jug. Filled it half full and put in extra
sugar (about 3 cups). added 1/8 teaspoon baking soda and 1/8 Teaspoon yeast
(standard red what ever it was). I put...

Snail Hunting fish - recommendations ? by
Shawn P. Good
Hello :
I bought quite alot of plants about a month and a half ago to start up my
new planted tank. Seems like there were some hitchhikers, as now my
aquarium is full of small (~5-8mm) snails. No idea what species, but they
leave the algae alone and love eating holes in the leaves of all my...

Beware of Hong Kong fake plants.. by
Lopaka
Well, I live in Hawaii with its drawbacks, but more than once I have been
passed off with
plants which are supposed to live underwater, only to find out that they
grow in my back yard.
And this at $3-5 a pop? They look SO authentic when they are prepped for
sale. They become
rottten fish food. I...

Phil Williamson
Hi all,
I have a moderate to heavy planted 20 gal tank and I'm noticing that the
plants are growing at a decent rate but they seem to be getting holes in
them and rotting. Here's my tank specs:
- 15 watt powerglo
- 15 watt sunglow
- leaf zone plant fert.

Poor Man's Dupla Drops by
Martin
Since my water source is low in Potassium, I like the idea of Poor Man's
Dupla Drops with it's high dosages of Potassium Nitrate and Potassium
Chloride. However, the recipe calls for a fairly health dose of Magnesium.
I have 46ppm Magnesium in my water source. Leave out the Magnesium??

Brown edges to leaves by
RedForeman ©®
Hi all,
I am new to fishkeeping and have a 40 litre tank. I have planted the
tank with a Limnophila, a Hygrophila and a Lugwigia. The tank is
usually lit for 12-14 hours with a 15w flourecent bulb. The plants
appear to be doing well, having been in the tank for 4 weeks or so
now, but...

HOT magnum filter media, etc. by
zxcvbob
I'm reclaiming a long neglected 20 gallon tank that is overrun with algae
and "christmas moss." It also has java ferns, and a few sword plants, and
another stem plant whose name I can't remember right now. Hygro
polysperma, I think.
I did a 50% water change, and vacuumed a bunch of nasty crud...

Pruning hornwort by
Rick Kohrs
I wasn't exactly sure how to prune my hornwort when it reached the top
of my tank. So I just lopped off about 8" down and stuck the top back
into the gravel. The top seems to grow nicely, but the trimmed off
seems stunted.
I have now figured out that it is best to cut the side shoots off,...

Plant health when adding salt by
Dave
I have just started to add 3 heaped spoons of salt to 9 litres of water, and
wondered if this would be too much for my plants? I cannot tell you what
any varieties are but in general wondered if this was a safe level to add?
thanks
Dave

Eradicating BBA by
Chris_S
Hi:
I'm fed up with my Black Beard Algae. We've had it for the last several
years, but never had it before that. Obviously it came in on some plants or
fish. I've tried all the usual things like SAEs etc. and water control, but
nothing gets rid of it.
Recently I just setup a new 100G tank with...

Algae ID question by
Paul O.
I have on a couple of my broad leafed plants some dark grey, very slimy
algae. Is this the dreaded black/blackbeard algae? It's so slimy it's
impossible to try to pull off. Thanks.

Need Help!! Phosphate readings off the chart! by
Nick D
Hi...
I just picked up a new Hagen Nitrate and Phosphate test kit for my
29gal. I just re-started my tank with fresh gravel and new plants and
lights. I have 95watts, and DIY C02. I also completed a 50% water
change yesterday, and another 25% waterchange today, because of a
small thread/ hair algae...
