sand in ponds? by
DS
Hi
Sand (builders sand i think) has just got washed into our wild life pond
that has newts and frogs. There is a bit of 'froth' on the top of the water
and we can see some sand at the bottom of the pond. Will it hurt the pond or
the wildlife?
Thanks
D

self powered pump/filter by
cruxaustralis
During a break from digging my pond, and basking in the warm Queensland
sunshine it occured to me that I could use the hydraulic pressure of the
pond to pump/siphon water into my veggie filter. So i built a model using a
20 liter drum and it's been pumping/siphoning away like a beauty for a week.

frog crocking by
Cuk
The frogs in my pond are in fine tune February and March of each year during
the breeding season. They don't make any sounds during the rest of the year
which I believe is normal for the Common Frog. Over the last couple of weeks
I have herd one frog crocking early in the evenings. The sound is a...

Bog Plants by
asiggy
Hello out there
Can anyone suggest some suitable plants for a marshy area at the side of the
pond? preferably something that will trail into the water. Bearing in mind
that I live in the north of England by the sea, so it must be frost
tollerant and also be able to cope with some salt in the...

Blanketweed or Stringweed by
Rick
Is Blanketweed something different than Stringweed?
If yes how do you know the difference?
How do you control them? I know about the Koi clay ( Kitty litter) for
Stringweed.

Raccoon problem by
Scott M.
I have just put in a beautiful Koi/goldfish pond and I'm sure that I have
lost several fish to a raccoon. Would a motion sensor that activates a
couple of spotlights scare them off or at least make it too hard to see into
the water because of glare or is there a better way.
Thank you,
Scott

Soapy water by
Mogweed
We seem to have developed soapy water. The waterfall has been running 24/7
since December and we have no fish in the pond yet. There aren't many plants
at the moment as a friend said he would give us lots but he is off work sick
at the moment, but there are 4 oxygenators under the surface as well...

Pond is Looking Good But!!! by
Rick
I have my pond up and running for two months now. Everything is falling
into place. The water cleared up very nicely, after I increased my
Bio-filter with some lava rock. (Some advice I got from the group) It is
now crystal clear and I can see the bottom and my three small Koi and six
goldfish ...

tadpoles by
Lady Zephyr
Your Japanese beetles are only around for TWO WEEKS??? They must have
come here (TN). It's my understanding that they are now mating; the
grubs will begin feeding in the yard later in August (time for milky
spore), and next year they'll be back. I read that four o'clocks are
tasty and lethal to JB,...

fish near waterfall by
gng
Should I be concerned? I have a 2500 gallon pond with water lillies and
about a dozen koi (18") and a dozen goldfish. Lately I've noticed the koi
are all hanging out under the waterfall. Nothing has changed - they never
used to do this. They eat fine, and otherwise no issues. Is it...

Blanketweed by

Had a stone waterfall put in about 9 months ago and this year has been an
absolute nightmare for blanketweed. Always had it but never this bad.
Waterfall gets covered in it and no matter how thoroughly I clean waterfall

I have used chemicals to treat...
