Extra goldfish by Jim
Hello, Each year my pond produces more fish than I can take care of. What do people do with their extra goldfish? Fishermen say it's not good to dump them into streams because they eat the small gamefish. Would a river be a good place to put extra goldfish into? Thanks, Jim

Spunjez or Horn Wort? by Ded Objekts In Veevoh
Such a thing as a stealth heater is. It's a fluorescent lamp. Over water other than distilled, and maybe even that if you expose it to air, it inevitably leads to decay or metabolism, which yields heat. In a sci.physics.* group, some guy once suggested that we put Iron SesquiChloride in the ocean...

Crayfish problem by Pondmeister
I'm a new pond owner. I now have a pond approximately one half acre in size. It seems to have a problem with crayfish. There are burrows & some "mud castles" all around the yard. Those close to the pond seem to be weakening the bank. How can I control these burrow makers? They really cover...

For several months now I've been working on a small koi pond for the back yard. The shell is formed out of concrete block sitting on a 6" thick concrete slab. Total capacity of the pond will be about 1300 gallons with a small waterfall at one end and a skimmer at the other. The concrete block work...

Green Water by ~Mr. McDonald~
Tis that time of the year for most,.....and here are some of the major reasons why! A new pond that is not biologically balanced yet, will be a prime candidate for Algae blooms. Yes, yur new setup or just filled pond is a prime candidate for green water. Remedy---Patience, along with good filter...

New pond/koi owner questions by chereena
I was so happy to find this group and read some of your past posts. Thanks for being here! I bought a house with a koi pond in Seattle and the owner left me two adult fish and some very rudimentary instructions. Today I put some algae chemicals in the pond and attempted to clean the giant filters...

Several pond-related questions by WCJ
Greetings group, I have a few questions I'd appreciate some help on. 1) My mom's pond (pre-fab, perhaps 50 gallons) has a severe problem with string algae. This is new to me, as I've been living in another state until recently and never saw this problem in my own ponds. The pond is quite...

Maximizing pressurized filters efficiency? by Jack
Hi, folks. Our pond is rather small at only 280 gallons. After a few years of using an inpond integrated pump/homemade filter (lava rock, scrubbies, etc.) last season I ran across a good deal on a Hozelock Bioforce 500 UV filter and Titan 550 pump. It has worked fine over this past season but...

Pressure Filters by Promextheus Xex
Hi, I was thinking of getting a pressure filter with a built-in UV for a pond that's near 4000 gals. I have a small pond off to the side that's about 60" dia and 18" deep. I usually grow some plants in that and the water flows from there into the main pond via a small stream. The pressure...

The Survivor..........lets have a minute of silence for the poor thing! by ~Mr. McDonald~
I'm sad to report that the goldfish who survived the pond poisoning and lived for weeks in pea green soup, did not survive being transferred to a clear water pond. -- Nick. Support severely wounded and disabled Veterans and their families!

Hi group by jthread
Hello: I lost 3 Koi in my pond over the winter. Two were new from Petco and a large one that was there when we bought the house last October. We've been learning how to maintain the pond mostly through error. Right now we have about 7 gold fish that seem really healthy. The filter works well...

Replacing pond liner - seeking advice by Timmah1980
(The message has also been posted in the "rec.ponds.moderated" group.) We've had our house for about six months now and are at last getting around to replacing the leaky pond liner. With the pond, we inherited about 14 small-medium gold fish, along with one quite large koi carp. The pond itself...
