Suggestions please. by
Mark and Kim Smith
Time to finish the bait shack. It gives me something to do while I'm
waiting for the sod to show up. I'm looking for suggestions as to what
to put in the windows. I know that it will at least have 4 panes of
glass, but what to put behind the glass. Fishing lures? Boat ads? I
already did a...

Suicidal fish :( by
Dude
So the other day my wife calls me at work. Says Chris something is
wrong with the pond. It's close to empty and there are pieces of fish
everywhere. I asked if the pump was off and it was. The pump has a
float the automatically turns the pump off if it drops to low.
Anyways I get home later to...

Spring feeding by
Scott Murchison
Hi,
Now that my pond is finally thawed, I am wondering when I start to feed my
fish and what to feed them. I only lost one 8 inch Koi over the winter and
still have about 15 fish. I live just west of Ottawa, Ontario.

p.s. My idea for an insulated, heated housing for my air pump...

Do I have nearly 4 foot tall Iris already? I have to split them ASAP.

How do you decorate the bottom of a pond? Fake stone or gravelpicture by
DD DDD
My pond is doing good but the black colored bottom of the preform I have
is to plain looking. Is there anything I can get to lay on the bottom?
Like maybe a fake picture of gravel or pond stone? Maybe something that
can handle being in water all year. I had real gravel and no way will I
do that...

All My Fish Died by
birdman
Hi everyone, I'm new to this newsgroup. My name is Dan, and I live in
Maine.
This spring when my pond finally thawed, I found all my fish dead.
(goldfish)
here were 8 second year fish, about 5", and about 40 small first year
fish. (I had actually taken out at least 50 last fall).
The pond is about...

NOT frogspawn - what is it? by
Yabbadoo
Attached to some LONG strands of blanketweed I found several strings of ??
eggs ?? - but what are they ?
Definately not frogspawn. These are jelly strings, between 4 and 7 inches
long, with black spots all in a line, about 20 eggs per string.
I'm in UK. Pond contains a few brand-new young Koi,...

Pond bird... by
Sean Dinh

Caught this bird harassing the fish. He was after the
Fathead Minnow surrounding the pellets. All the fish went
into hiding. For days I never knew why my fish kept hiding.

Walter Sighting! by
Gary Woods
This is the annual report, more or less:
Perhaps six years ago, my wife Pat said as we were wandering through the
mall pet shop, "Hey, my goldfish tank would look nice with that cute little
Koi in it." So we bought a 3-inch fairly nondescript Koi and brought him
home. A bit over a year later, he...

smart fish by

It's amazing how my fish still remember me after not seeing them all winter!
A couple of the koi love to have their snouts rubbed. One goldfish swam
right into my hand. And they have really grown over the winter!

Floating plants and current by
Elaine T
I'm finding that the water in the lower two barrels of my pond is too
turbulent for small floating plants. The water lettuce seems to ride
its way to a quiet spot against a marginal and stay, but the azolla gets
pushed under at the spillway outflow and tumbled around underwater.
Then its roots...

Softened water vs. well water by
Farias
I am about to build a small pond (a couple hundred gallons) and am wondering
about what water to use. I live in the country in central Texas (aka the
Hill Country) and the water that comes out of our well is very hard, with
plenty of calcium compounds, some iron and some hydrogen sulfide.
My plan...

Yey, all present and accounted for by
Bill Stock
It finally broke double digits here this week, so I decided it was time for
the bad news. Since I had looked under the cover a few times during the
winter and did not see a single fish.
So I asked the neighbour lad to give me a hand to lift the cover off. It
weighs 200+ pounds, so it takes a...
