waring: well water can have ammonia by Ann in Houston
I have had a hard time getting to my newsreader, so I weathered this calamity with the help of the pond forum on GardenWeb. I was feeding my fish in the gf pond, and noticed that they had no appetite. I had to net out the entire feeding every time. I had a spring algae bloom, so I had to get rid...

Protecting Pond from Raccoons by DD DDD
I read a lot here. I was wondering if anyone has ever used 1/4 inch plexiglass over the top of a 200 gallon round pond? I would mount it 1 inch above the pond. My only problem id would condensation form inside the plexiglass? I can put a hinge lid and anything else needed for cleaning ect. I just...

Koi show in Houston at Hermann Park by Ann in Houston
I plan on going, as I am normally prevented by the far west location. I just can't get I10 East early enough to do any good. This time, it's more in my neck of the woods and I am really looking forward to it. Maybe I'll wear a "rec.ponds" button on my shirt.

Frog feeding by Heather
Today it was nice and sunny here in SW Ontario. I peeked under the plastic I covered the pond with and at least 15 frogs were sitting on the rocks absorbing the warmth. Water at the top read 45F. We still have 4 - 5 inches of snow and there are no bugs around. Should I feed the frogs some pet...

Lily Secrets by Mark and Kim Smith
Any secrets or tips to get them to grow like crazy? Last year, when first planted, they grew fine. I left them in the pond all winter as winter around here was mild. Everything else in the yard is growing like crazy but the lilies are only producing small leaves. Thoughts??

toads, et al, in Baltimore by [email protected]
It's that time of year again when I issue my annual request to Baltimore-area ponders with overabundant toad tadpoles (and other types of tadpoles and adult amphibians, save bullfogs), as I try to re-stock my little pond and woods. If anyone finds themselves overwhelmed with such critters, I'd...

Aquatic plant containers by WDC
I am just about ready to bring my plants up, divide 'em, and repot 'em. Any thoughts on the advantages or disadvantages of fabric pots? I hear some saying that fabric is one very good way to go as it allows for better nutrient absorption. Thanks for your input. W. Dale Colorado Springs, CO

Note from Nedra, rec.ponder by kathy
For all you rec.pond regulars I heard from Nedra today. Her mother passed away from the stroke she suffered in December. She was a lady in her 90s so she had lived a long and happy life and was still on her own up to the end. We can all wish for so much. Nedra has changed providers and not able to...
