String Algae in Winter (Zone 6) by Stephen Henning
I just checked and the nice rich green carpet on the bottom of my pond is string algae. The stuff beginning to cover the surface of the pond is not duckweed, but azolla. I am hoping the azolla through shade and filtering during the winter will help hold down the string algae growth until the water...

Get dead fish out or leave till spring? by Mike C
I took a peak under my pond cover and noticed 1 of my 6 Koi was dead. It is laying at the bottom of the pond near where the other fish are. Should I get it out or just leave it? I am a little concerned that poking a net down there is going to really disturb the other Koi. Will leaving the dead...

help please by damian
My new home has a fish pond which has not been used for about 4 months. The previous owners removed the fish but have left the pump and filter for us to use. I would like to get the pond ready to put some gold fish in but I have never had a fish pond or fish before and don't know what I need to do...

Submersible Lights by Mike C
Maybe this isn't the right forum, but I figured this is the most likely place to get an answer. I have a submersible low voltage light. My transformer fried last fall (basically, where the wires connect, it melted). I was looking at new transformers. Ones that say "for use with submersible light"...

Study: Lobsters Unlikely to Feel Pain by Benign Vanilla
PORTLAND, Maine - A new study out of Norway concludes it's unlikely lobsters feel pain, stirring up a long-simmering debate over whether Maine's most valuable seafood suffers when it's being cooked. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&u=/ap/20050215/ap_on_sc/lobster_pain - or...

New News on "Lots of Ammonia" by Richard Holub
OK Folks, I have finally seen signs of change in my pool water. I posted earlier asking for help on getting rid of my pool 160 gal. pond of ammonis and increasing my nitrite. I have followed some of your directions and have finally reached some form of results. Here is what I have: 1. On...

Goldfish by pixi
I have a problem that I appear to be too dense to solve. I used to have a almost 30 aquariums full of various kinds of fish. Swapped the young fish to a fish dealer for supplies. When I went back to work full time I decided spending my weekends cleaning fish tanks was a bit of a bore. That was...

First pond questions by Elaine T
Ok...I'm back. ;-) I rent so I can't dig but I have a concrete patio where I can put a pond. No electricity, so no filter but that's OK. I want lots of plants and only a fish or two to keep the mosquitos down is fine by me. I'm in Southern California, zone 10 and never any frost. After...

New News on "Lots of Ammonia" by Richard Holub
I forgot to mention that from the start my pH reading was ALWAYS 7.4. On 02/16/05 when I started to get my ammonia down and nitrite/nitrate up the pH reading was 6.0. I had to use Sodium Bicarbonate to increase pH level. I will take another reading tomorrow and probably use "BOOLSEYE 7.0)

Water Spaniels in Europe by Lil ole me
The Netherlands There are just about 40 IWS in Holland, a rare breed overhere. Most IWS are bred out of English imports. There are some American imports over here and there are a couple of "American bred" litters at the moment. Never before we had two litters at once, so this is a very unique...
