Hole in the ice? by
Don Cunningham
I use a stock tank heater to maintain a hole in the ice on my pond. My
question is how large a hole is required?
I have a 1200 gallon pond. My heater is 1000 watts and keeps about a four
inch hole in the ice.

Wintering my Fish by
TheStealth
I've got a pond (~800 gallons) with 13 goldfish. I live in Montreal, Quebec
so leaving them outside in the winter is out of the question (the pond is
currently solid). At the moment I have them indoors in two aquariums (one
30 gal and one 20 gal). Next year I fear the fish will be too big for...

Where Do You Buy Your Fish Food by
JB
Hey!
Looking to buy an 11 pound bag of Hikari Staple to feed my fish I visited a
number of web sites and noticed a high to low price spread of over $20 on
this product. Then there's the shipping charges that vary almost as much.
I'm looking for some recommendations on where to get a good price on...

Hi,

point me to the FAQ? I'd also appreciate any pointers to articles about
unfiltered ponds (no outdoor electricity here), and what plants and fish

building a waterfall by

I am planning to build a waterfall. I wonder if I should use a
waterfall filter with a weir or simply pipe the water from a filter?
What's the advantage or disdvantage of using a weir?

muskrats! by
K30a
Hi RGB,
Glad to see you 'back'.
Are you going to do rip rap around the sides?
I'm wondering if setting up a pre-emptive trap will catch them before they
dig.... or if they'll leave the trapped one behind and go off and dig anyway?
Muskrat trapping is usually legal most anywhere, especially if a...

Monk by
~ jan JJsPond.us
Any of you see the first showing of the TV show Monk?
The mystery was why someone appeared to be after a young girl's fish in an
aquarium. The fish was IDed as a Crimson Marble that only lived about 1
year due to a weak immune system. Anyone want to take a guess what the fish
really was? ~...

Can I grow a lotus in the UK? From 15 year-old seeds? by
Alan Silver
Hello,
My wife was clearing out a drawer the other day, and she came across a
package containing some lotus seeds that I was given by someone I met
about 15 years ago. I put them away, intending to find out how to grow
them one day and never did ;-)
Anyway, so I have two basic questions...

Scale regrowth by
Gary
I was given a large ( almost 24 inches) Koi. It had lost numerous scales
on either side. I believe the cause was trauma rather than a disease
process (there are 2 long lesions of 3 rows wide of scale loss) . I have
had the fish for over a month and it is doing just fine. My question is.
Will these...

~ jan JJsPond.us
What is the current status of your pond?
The screens have 4" of snow on them, but with my wireless thermometer I can
see that the water is liquid, I can also "hear" the water moving... but
that requires going "outside".... like brrrrr!
I haven't even gone up and looked at the lily pond, maybe...
