Dissapointed by Mostyn
I am very disappointed I was taking advice from a so called dealer and it has cost me a lot of money, I only found out the other day that this so called dealer is an electrician who inherited the business from his father and has no idea about the business at all. I bought a filter and pump from...

who here knows about giardia? by Ann in Houston
I was at the vet's the other day and they were treating a Labrador for this parasite. It supposedly comes from the dog drinking from a natural waterway where "infected" flukes were present. My fish have never had flukes, but I wonder if it would hurt our neighbor's dog if he drank water from my...

Leaking pond by PACurry
I have recently moved in to a new house and have inherited a pond 8ft x 6ft x 4ft deep. The pond is constructed of cement/brick and I have noticed that the water level is dropping by some 4 inches overnight and then levels out, obviously a leak. I can't find a leak and therefore I intend to...

Mutant babies (goldfish)??? by Gary
I have about 15-20 new baby goldfish in my pond this year - more than usual. I noticed that 2-3 of them are oddly shaped, fatter and shorter than the others, with strangely shaped fins, and have only a loose resemblance to a typical goldfish. The original goldfish were just the 10-cent feeders you...

Relief in Chicago: No More 'Frankenfish' by Benign Vanilla

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The small frogs that croaked in Diane Butler's backyard pond had been silenced and her goldfish were disappearing. She had the culprit, dead in a plastic bag inside her freezer. Butler's capture - a 4 1/2-inch Cuban tree frog - in coastal Savannah has caused a nervous stir...

netting of the pond re breeding frogs/toads by Ka30P
Has anyone netted a pond well enough to keep frogs/toads from breeding? My prediction is that you could keep them from the water but they'd still hang around, attempt to breed anyway, raise a racket all the same on *top* of the net. kathy :-) zone 7, SE WA state

Over Wintering by JJ
With frost advisory due soon, does anyone have a suggestions on overwintering "Umbrella Palm" which is a beautiful plant about 5' tall and a Papyrus Palm which is also very healthy about 4' tall. Both are in pots that I think may be too small now and would like to bring them indoors for the winter...

I have no fish in my pond as yet, I will be stocking next spring but I was wondering I haven't tested my ph as yet if I get a high reading how does one lower the ph and or if the ph is very low how does one raise it, so it will accommodate Japanese Koi. I have never kept Japanese koi before so I...
