An example of a poster's "advertisement" by [email protected]
"poster" poster wrote: I have a 99-year old book "Tthe Chess Player's Compendium" by William Cook concentrating on openings given to me some years ago by my great-aunt. You can see how much has changed in the interval - various openings such as the Sicilian are dismissed in a few...

Blocking senders by Galen Hekhuis
Early on, before we even got around to the first draft of the RFD, the subject of "blacklisting" or blocking posters based on IP number, nym, or any of a number of different criteria. The suggestion was met with a resounding "NO." Even if someone were to hold hostage and threaten to kill a cute...

Attn: **Persons Looking for Pond Information** -please read inside by [email protected]
Hi: My name is Ron, and I'm part of a group that is working to have a new pond newsgroup created. This group (the one you are now reading) was pretty much destroyed over the past 2 years by trolls. The new group will be called rec.ponds.moderated, and it should be up and running...

snipped all crossed posts On 24 Dec 2006 08:11:12 -0800, "charles" reposted what Hari Seldon replied to Borked Pseudo Mailed, which claimed at one point: I think it was Hari Seldon who wrote: Once released on news.groups.proposals the discussion will be...

Lionhead Goldfish outdoors by Zebulon
The 5 lionhead goldfish in the 150g outdoor kiddy-pool pond came through the first killing frost in excellent condition. The ice melted and there they swam. Proof once again fancy goldfish are as hardy as Shubunkins and comets. The water-bubble eyed GF are also fine in Tank #3 (650g). These...

Phyllis and Jim hope all goes well with the RFD by Jim and Phyllis
Phyllis and I are glad the RFD has now been published. We are sad that rec.ponds has been so mired in conflict and hope that a moderated group will be able to be set up. We both loved and benefitted from rec.ponds before the conflict. We built our pond around an old septic tank and learned how...

RPM moderation techniques; PGP will not stop nut cases and flame wars by Galen Hekhuis
I didn't quote anything. As one of the proponents and a potential moderator of rec.ponds.moderated, I would like to say that I don't care at all *who* started it. My only concern is to have a fairly sane place to discuss ponds. I don't speak for anyone else but I doubt any of the other proposed...

Tank #2 by Zebulon
Tank #2, 650g (give or take a few) drained down today. Water parameters the same. There was more debris on the bottom which we expected since it's closer to the woods and more leaves and twigs blow through the net. There was also many small dead koi on the bottom and a unpleasant swampy odor....

Water Hyacinths and greenhouses by Zebulon
I mentioned here before that I bought a small Greenhouse from Harbor Freight this past summer. It's heated and the plants are thriving - including my water-lettuce. :-))) I sprayed them for insects so no problems with that. Now I'm looking forward to buying water hyacinths next spring and...

See here is yet an example of how long ago that post was made and yet the person that said they liked it was a person that was just a lurker back then and no one ever seen hide nor hair of. But they are still very well versed in what goes on and how thngs are in rec.ponds. And I doubt very...

Do you need tadpoles in North Texas? by jammer
I am very much doubting it, but if anyone in the DFW area needs any, let me know! I am in overkill mode on the tads. (These are woodhouse toads)

State of the Pond in Winter by ~ janj
We've been below freezing since Monday here in S.Central Washington(State), Stock tank heater (1,000 watt) has been turned on ever since. Currently koi pond is sitting at 40ish. The lily pond, with one of those new low watt heaters (100 watt) is sitting at 37F. We had a few flurries of snow,...
