Pink Waterlily closed by 2pods
My pink waterlily bloomed for three days, but for the past two the flower has remained closed. It's been dry and warm here (Scotland) and the water temp is around 20. The only other thing i've noticed is a new pad coming up. Peter

be careful what you wish for... frog bog by Ka30P
I've been googling stuff up from rec.ponds, doing research and found a post of mine about the frog bog dated 3-25-2002 It will eventually fill in and I have no idea what the heck I'm going to do with it.... This July the thing filled in so much that it doesn't have any standing water in it!...

Does anyone have any advise on the Savio Skimmerfilter 160? My pond is in the 5000 gallon range and right now I don't have a skimmer at all. Thanks!

Shutting off pump by Newbie Bill
I frequently see suggestions that people shut off their pump to confirm leaks. I never see any mention of damage to the bio filter. Dont the bio bugs begin to die within three to four hours? If so I wonder why it is rarely mentioned, since this could create significant new problems. Thanxx Bill...

Howdy all by Just Me \Koi\
Just wanted to say a quick hello and that I am still alive and kicking. I was promoted in February, plus a 13 month baby, and ponding, and fish, vacation to BV land, and......... You understand why I have been so busy! -- _______________________________________ "The difference between...

Water chemistry, new pond, new ponder by Rob
Oh, I'm an excited new ponder. After a month of recovering from a back injury (due to digging out my 400 gallon pond!), I put in the liner & water, ran the electricity and turned on the pump. The short waterfall with small veggie filters isn't running yet, but the pump pushes the water through the...

Swimming pool filter, any use for a pond by Roy
I acquired a pretty decent sized swimming pool filter with the multi position valve etc on it. Held about 250 pounds of sand. Cleaned it all up and its like new, but I already scavenged the internal spray or filter head out of it for my ponds pump, so I have just a big empty container. Anything...

Little Giant Pumps? by DennisD
I am in the process of setting up a water garden. Since I'm in the plumbing business I have access to Little Giant pumps at great pricing. But the question is: are they any good (longevity, energy consumption, etc.). Thanks

Pump for cleaning out pond by Harriett Wright
I use a shop vac to suck the yuck off the bottom of my pond, but it fills up in about nine seconds flat, and then I have to dump it and start over, a tedious and tiring process. What I want is a pump with a hose or wand on one end to suck mucky water from the bottom, and a hose on the other end...

Fish Mate Pressurized UV+Bio Pond Filter by GoldLexus
Has anyone had any experience with the above mentioned filter? We currently have a Pondfiltration pressurized filter http://www.pondfiltration.com/pl4800.html that is about 4 years old. We have put in new filter media this year (not cheap!) We have to take apart the filter to rinse the bags about...

Filter media question by Roy
I was dissatisfied with the size bulk of the filter box I bought when it was installed in the 1/2 barrel setup, so I made my own, which I belive will work just fine, but my question is what kind of media should I use. The typical foam type or the nylon scrubber pad stuff. The filter box was made...

bizarre experience last night by Susan H. Simko
While cooking on the BBQ grill, I often wander over to the pond to check it out. While standing there last night, one of the big female green frogs climbs out on the side right by my feet. To my amazement, extending out of the corners of her mouth were wing tips!!!! I could also see some yellow...

Indoor ponds by Tom Puskar
I'm new to this group so apologies in advance if this has been discussed. I have a 300 gallon indoor pond (started off as a winter haven for my outdoor pond fish) and I'm having a lot of trouble with ammonia levels. The pond is probably overstocked with goldfish but they all look healthy. I...

Filter Enzyme question by Roy
I noticed there are a lot of companies that sell the so called bio filter bacteria. I also noticed there are also lots of various enzymes packaged and advertised. One is supposed to rid tanks of odors and solids, and another is supposed to rid tanks and ponds of amonia and nitrites, while yet...

Update on Petsmart preplanted aquatic plants by Roy
Well out of a bunch of packs of these plants I had two that actually grew........One was a miniature cat taial and the other was an Iris (Black gamecock variety). The iris packs were supposed to have two bulbs in each. In all the other packs of preplanted bulbs, some (most) never had the first...

New Goldfish by Claudia
watching the pond tonight and for the first time saw some (counted 3) 1 inch gray/brown fish darting about. Could they be anything other than goldfish? and when would they become "gold" or is brown the recessive color possible with mutt type goldfish? sorry if I am not being PC, but I am...

Water temps at various depths by Roy
After reading some posts on water temps at different depths I fooled around taking readings in my pond at different depths. In the middle my pond is right at 21 feet. The temp at this depth is 61 degrees. It stays at approximately this temp untill I get to 15 feet where it then gets into the 70's....

External pumps by W Dale
Any one have recommendations for good external pump for a 4,000+gal. pond? I am trying to get ready for the eventual demise of my two SG 4300's. What I keep reading is that for larger ponds, external pumps are the way to go. Thanks for your comments and input W. Dale
