WH turning yellow by
Claudia
WH have been in the waterfall, they were green and are now yellowing, not
dying, just "look" hungry. How does one "feed" pond plants. Figure the
ones in the pond (that are very happy) are getting enough nitrogen, but that
the WH since they are in waterfall, after the filters are not...

sick fish? by
Carolyn
I just went out to check on my fish for the first time in a while. The
goldfish seem to have white spots all over them, the fantails look like they
have been through a paper shredder! I have one koi with a yellowish bump on
it's side, almost looks crusty, with the scales sticking out. What can I...

First year ponding lessons by
aktgibbs
Thank you to everyone who offered advice this year as I put together my
first pond. Yep, plans for the next one are on the drawing board!
Here's some of the stuff I learned:
The planting method for anacharis is irrelevent if the goldfish eat it
within 24 hours of planting.
Given a choice...

Over wintering plants question by
Roy
I live in the upper section of zone 9, and freezes and cold weather
usually is not a problem, however I am not willing to take any chances
on all the aquatic plants we have bought this year and have a freak
freeze etc wipe em out. So I need to make plans to house some of them
so I have starter...

Finally a use for all my scraaps opf PVC pipe by
Roy
While cruising ebay I found an auction for PVC Ribbon Media . Its
nothing more than curls of PVC pipe. I have a heap of this stuff in
various lengths and diameters laying around, and it usually gets
thrown ouot, now it may be something to consider if I decide to make a
huge bio type filter. Does...

Underwater lights on Ebay.....anyone buy any of these yet? by
Roy
Seems pretty darn cheap for 20 feet of cord, transformer, 5 different
color lens and light assembly with 20watt halaogen bulb with starting
bids of $9.00 to abaout $12.00 on them. Drastic difference in cost
between Egg lites, Alpines and Laguna under water lights. Best price I
found on under water...

kiddie pool still stumps me by
Newbie Bill
I'm still trying to get my still water kiddie pool going, but I cant keep
the fish alive. I have been using small rosey reds or feeder comets 2 or 3
of each. The comets frequently die over the first night. One of the roseys
made it a week. Lethargy and hiding is the only symptom I have seen. ...

water lettuce by
Newbie Bill
I was given 3 tiny water lettuce about a month ago.Without the beverage I
used the BV planting method and put them in my full sun pond. They are
multiplying at a ridiculous rate but even the mother plants are not more
than an inch or so tall. Any suggestions to get them to grow up and...

Activated Carbon by
bk
I'm using activated carbon to help clear up some brown water. Did a 15-20%
water change, added a carbon filter pad and a quart container of carbon. Put
the carbon to two separate homemade stocking bags. One on top of filter
where water trickles over it and the other directly in the pond.
The pond...

Fish Stopped Eating by
jrio
Fish had been doing fine (2 sarasa comets, 2 shubunkin, 3 koi), all
about 4 inches and healthy looking (at least to my eyes). They were
eating like little piggies, practically out of my hand, until about three
days ago. Now they seem very shy, swimming very quickly to hide under
the plants from...

the results and was thinking about starting over and building one of these
but wanted feedback from others who have used this...

frogs frogs everywhere by
Gail Futoran
I thought they had all abandoned me. Last year,
new pond, gadzillion toad tadpoles while my
back was turned. This year, nada.
Then a few days ago I found a green tree frog
(the very first I've seen on my property in
10 years) near the stock tank pond, and moved
it (carefully) over to the...

Concrete vs. Liner for koi ponds by
Michael Capone
Hi Folks,
Been doing a lot of reading lately on the concrete vs. 45-mil liner
issue when setting up a fish pond. I'd like to ask the question in a
slightly different way:
Assume that money is no object (for the moment, at least; I'm sure
I'll come to my senses soon...) Also, assume that I don't...

Whew! That was close!! by
Mark and Kim Smith
So I decided to top off my pond ( I do that occasionally. ) I knew
that, in the future, I would have to make provisions for rain and
runoff, etc. I figured I have time since it is summer and all ( still
very hot around here! So I turned on the supply. Then my attention
turned to my little boy. ...

Longevity of Lotus seeds? by
Gary Woods
Actually, some web sources indicate unbelievably long life spans, with the
caveat that these may not be true... so the "Unknown but very pretty white"
lotus that produced a couple of big seed pods may produce some progeny,
starting in late winter...
In the words of an old Vaudeville punchline,...
