Roy
Was at the local Southern Homes and Garden center yesterday and
inquired if they had any Parrots feather, to which they replied, no,
but we sure wished it was legal to buy and sell in the state...DUH! To
make a long story short I bought it mailorder and received it....no
problem......so, so much...

otters raid nursery for fish by
Lydia
I'm surprised they haven't had trouble with any other predators such as the
herons! They've installed electric fences around the ponds, but what about
winged death from above?!

Water Changes by
bk
I'm clearing up brown water from algae bloom and tanins.
How much and how often can I change the water without freaking out or
killing the fish?
Our fish are African Cichlids, they seem pretty hardy, but maybe they're
fooling me.

maintenance-free pond? by
HK_Newbie
I inherited a small pond with four or five comets, a large bullfrog
(reaaaally large), and some plants (and the requisite snails). The previous
home owner told me that i shouldn't feed the fish, even though he had a ton
of food, and all the maintenance it needed was the occasional cleaning...

nymphaea mexicana by
princerusty
Anyone have experience growing nymphaea mexicana in their pond?
Specifically, does it bloom a lot? I live in So. Calif., avocado
growing country, no frost to speak of. I am interested in a hardy or
half hardy lily that blooms *alot*. I am not concerned so much with
color, form, etc..... The most...

Green water, to Brown water, back to Green again! by
Gareee©
Sigh.. don't think I'll see our fish this year.
We had green water, and I put barley pads in to kill the algae off.
Once it died off, we were treated to brown "tea" water, still murky.
We've had lots of rain this year, and the pond is in about 3/4 sun, so now
I'm back to green water.
I still...

HELP? by
Bette E
I know that i'm more of a lurker here, than a regular poster, but you
good folks have helped me out many times--
This is a biggie !
Our pond began losing water this week at about two inches daily. ( pond
is 20'X8'X 28 inches deep.)
The pond has a hole in the poly-liner, we found it when we removed...

Water iris by
figaro
Been doing a lot of reading lately and I am getting conflicing info on how
to care for the various species of water iris. Some references claim that
several species cannot grow directly in water and other references refute
those claims. Then a third group mixes up the advice of the first...

Fish out of water...survivability? by
Roy
Well this moring when the wife came in from work she stopped to look
at her new Red and White Comets and her shubunkin. I had watched them
last night for over 2 hours in her 1/2 barrel planter. None made any
attempt at jumping. They were relatively very very friendly. They ate
great, and then this...

Full ponder stripes by
~ jan JJsPond.us
Well it finally happened, I managed not to let it happen for almost 10
years, but I finally had a full head to toe dip with destiny.
I did a full header into the koi pond, good thing that island isn't in
there any more, but if it was, I wouldn't have been doing what I was doing,
which was, trying...

wintering frogs in pond by
Lorna Lanyon
We would like to try and winter over some of our little green visitors this
year, so that there are not so many little gren bodies to clean up next
spring. The pond is in the back yard 15' x 21' x 3' and is lined with EPDM.
There is a 12" garden all the way around it and a waterfall but that...

Uv filter pump combo? by
Gareee©
Ok, started web searching but it looks like all the filters I'm seeing also
need a pump as well.
Let me revise me question from before....

I have to admit the pump I bought is too big for a 1/2 barrel by
Roy
Until you restrict it down for a good flow out of the hand pump so
that the surface water is not all stirred up it puts the pump into a
load, and it makes a droning sound. Adjust the restrictor clamp until
noise goes away and its too much water flow. So I added a T to the
inlet tube between the...

Building a New Bog Addition To My Pond-Need Advise by
Chester Deja
We have a large 2 year old 55'x 35' pond. Our next project will be to
make a bog. The landscape is such that I can channel the rain flow
into a wet area and have it overflow into a stream which leads to my
pond. (stream will be run by 5000 gph pump). My pond has no fresh
source of water besides...

Cheaper Pond liners by
Newbie Bill
As the season winds down it looks like the Wal Marts etc will be closing out
their inventory soon. I may be tempted to buy a small 150-250 gallon liner
if the price is right and set up a few fish/plant pond. However, none I
have seen are anything but preforms or 20 mil. Is 20 mil a lot...

Eye Fungus on Koi by
Marianne
Hello,
My koi that I have had for 13 years has some white fuzzy stuff growing
from the folds around the edge of one eye socket. I have read about
Formalin and Malachite Green and treated the entire pond every other
day for 10 days. The eye appears to be the same. All other koi and
goldfish in...
