I am wanting to make a biological prefilter out of a large flat rubbermade container using some coarse and medium density pads and springflo for the bio medium. The pre-filter will be placed at the bottom of my pond. Pondmaster and little giant sell theirs for around $60 for a SMALL 12 x 12 or 12...

Dirt in pond by 2pods
In our part of Scotland we had four days of constant rain. This made our raised pond quite dirty and murky. It was just settling down again when I foolishly removed a Pepper grass plant (by the grass, instead of grabbing the container) and silted it up again ! Once again the pond starts to clear...

Now that I got it, what to do with it? by Webwarlock
OK, so after going all over hells half acre I finally found a place that sold just plain clay kitty litter. No fragrences, no addatives, no crystals, just plan ground clay. Ironicly, I found it at Farmer Jack. Anyway, now the question is how much and how do I apply it to the pond? Put it in the...

Pond Habitats by Dave Bell
Some of use were sitting around yesterday evening, and talk got around to ponds and fish. Somewhere along the line, I mentioned the floating bubble habitat/fish toy that looks like an inverted, floating fish bowl, filled with water, so the fish can swim up into it, and look around above...

Above Ground Container Pond - Water Hazard :/ by Daniel Phillips
I woke up, and on my walk to the car this morning I saw a terrible site in my (above ground) half whiskey barrel pond. After five months, it finally happened: a bird, either a robin or mourning dove, drowned in there. And if it wasn't already ill, if they're that insistant to get water I might...

evaporation rate is worrying me by Larry
This is my first post so my apologies if this has been covered in recent posts. I belong to rec. birds and someone directed me to you. I have recently put in a small two tier waterfall draining into a 3'x3' "pond" for my feathered friends. Waterfall is about 6-8' total length. Pond/receptacle...

pH question by j
Hi: This is my first pond. 500 gallons with waterfall, EPDM liner, planted (bogs, oxygenators, one small water lily), 2 shubunkins, 2 sarasa comets, 3 kois all about 4 inches. The fish and plants are doing fine, growing great. The water is clear down to the three foot end but slightly brown. ...

Is there such a thing as a solar powered pump? by Kymberly Fergusson
Hi all, (am delurking for a bit ;) I have recently moved into a new house which has a very large pond (with a stepped rock face on the north side). There is an existing pump in the pond, but it is not connected to power (or so the landlord assures us). We don't really want to get the...

Lily Pods by Newbie Bill
I pulled a few lily pots from my pond today to ease the overcrowding and found several round pods growing on some apparently unpinched blooms. Are these of any use and why do they grow. It seems most of the old blooms just go to mush, although I have heard of dead heading before the blooms go...

So many plants, so little room by Newbie Bill
As ponds are starting to overgrow, more people are giving away plants. I'm looking for cheap suggestions about planting emergent bog plants out of the pond and probably in dirt=no mosquitos. I thought of digging oversized holes, lining with a trash liner and refilling with dirt or possibly...
