Foam ? by
2pods
I noticed today we seem to have what looks like foam.
Both free floating and hanging around the fountain spout, water lillies, and
other plants.
The only thing I can think of is I decided to bring the outlet hose from the
filter back in via a waterfall, and it's coming from the rocks and cobbles...

2nd try to give away free lily... by
Mike Miller
I have a root chunk of tropical lily "Blue Beauty" (great fragrance) that
has unexpectedly developed a life of its own, a life that I have no room
for.
I posted here a while back and got 2 people interested in it, but the 1st to
respond never got back to me, and the 2nd person did not include an...

want a frog? by
k conover
Maybe a stupid question, since frogs don't stay put, but since my two
tadpoles I bought several months ago didn't seem to make it (or maybe they
relocated before I could see/hear them)--I really want a frog! Can you
purchase one anywhere? I long to hear something other than the cicadas
humming...

Filter or no filter?? by
Steve Shapson
My new pond has been filled for about 2 years now and I finally put a pump
in.
I've been told that having a pond with lots of plants and water flowing down
a stream with many stones can do the same thing a pond filter does. What
is the reason for having a filter?

I was almost a non-believer! by

The water was green so I Googled the rec. Wait they said. Wait and it
will clear. Add plants and wait. So I added plants. Still a bit of
construction going on around here so not much I can do about the dust
blowing in. Been having some pretty hot days around here ( eh JMK!!) so
not much I...

green water by
elaine
being new to the pond world I am looking for help in clearing the water in
the pond at my new house. filters are running, bubbler is working, but pond
is green and murky. I am assuming it is an algae problem as the rocks in
the waterfall are covered with a green slime. There are largish koi...

Apple Snail laying eggs by
Scott M.
Last night I "caught" one of my apple snails in the act of laying eggs.
Check out the photos at
http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/murchison_home/lst?.dir=/bad7&.view=t and
look at the last three, named AppleSnail1, 2 and 3. It was neat to watch the
eggs slowly pop out, slide down her body and end up...

Catching Frogs by
Jim
Can anyone suggest an easy way to catch frogs? I need to thin the
herd and have been unable to catch them by hand or net due to thick
plant cover. I have a small cage trap and was thinking of using it.
Any suggestions as to what to use as bait? I've tried live mealworms
and the frogs don't seem...

Why are our hyacinths yellow/green? We are open to suggestions.
Our hyacinths are looking yellow/green instead of their usual dark green and
they are not reproducing at their usual frantic rate.

Pond Light Wiring by
PaulWoz
Hi
I received an underwater pond light as a gift (Alpine 50W) that did not include
a transformer. I'd like to hook it up to my old transformer (12V-120W max)
made by Beckett. Anyway, my transformer uses 2 screws to connect while the
Alpine light has a prong type connection. My question: can I...

Need Expert Advice by
Norm
I know enough about outdoor fish ponds to be "dangerous". I built three
small ones on my property when I lived in Florida for over 25 years. Now I
am back in New Jersey and I think some of the rules have changed --- not the
least of which is the weather. So here are my brief questions:
1) Some...

Koi in the winter by

I live in Ottawa and of course, it will get very cold here in the winter. I
plan to keep most of my fish in the pond and will do all the right things
like keeping the water open etc. What I am contemplating is bring in my four
8 inch Koi into the house for the winter. My plan would be to buy a...

Question regarding Daphnia by
Jason Garner
I went to a website recommended by members here (Stapeley Water gardens) and
they mention that in a new pond, green water will prevent new plants from
gaining a foothold and establishing themselves due to the lack of light
(makes sense).
They suggested instead of putting fish in, to put loads of...
