Recovery from Heron Attack??? by
Gary
Yesterday, I made the sad discovery that my goldfish suffered a
probable heron attack. It looks like the heron got about half of my
30+ goldfish. The survivors are all spooked (naturally) and won't
even come up for food. Some have scrape marks on their bodies where
it looks like they escaped the...

Spring fed pond coming into balance by
Stephen M. Henning
I have a 20,000 gallon (17'x47') lily pond which is spring fed. It
filled up in 2 days so the flow is good. The spring water's temperature
is 50 F. The pond's temperature is up to 65 F. When first filled with
water, it quickly covered over with string algae but the string algae is
beginning to...

Good plant to put near edge of pond ? by
Mickey
I have an area around my skimmer where I am thinking of putting in a
perennial of some type. I live in Minnesota Zone 4. What plants like to grow
into a pond? I was thinking of a water melon vine I know it is an annual but
I have seen watermelons floating in a spring.

Looking at building a pond but.... by
daryl wilde
The cost of the skimmer and filter box are expensive ~$500 or more. Has
anyone seen plans to build one? Any special concerns??
Thinking of using either external quality (CDX) or marine grade plywood and
then covering with liner......comments. Expect the pond to be 6 ft x 8 ft
or so and 18-24in...

Questions about Wakins and any available in SF Bay area shops? by
steve
I know that it is a strong fast goldfish with a double tail which is a
good pond fish and and the most common goldfish pondfish in Japan and
China. It has a magnificent tail with a wider than normal goldfish
body and it can easily hold its own with the comets and the standard
goldfish at feeding...

Shareholders Spawn by
BenignVanilla
My Koi are still looking a bit wide in the butt, so I don't think they have
spawned yet, but we noticed yesterday...hundreds of fry. We're not sure if
it's the minnows, the Koi, the Goldies or some mix of the aforementioned
group. We'll just have to wait and see. Still no frog or toad eggs.

new plantings-- cloudy water by
k conover
Hi, I recently cleaned up my water lilies from last year and "sunk" them
into the pond in a pot with aquatic soil and now they've grown up to the
surface nicely. I also purchased a pot from Home Depot filled with aquatic
plants. My question is this: both pots have the heavy, dark,...

Goldfish scales by
Glenn Lynn
My biggest goldfish, about eight inches, has lost some scales on her
sides. This happened when she became quite large from being full of
eggs and got stuck a few times squeezing through small passages. My
question is this. Will a goldfish grow back lost scales?
Thanks, Glenn

Gadgets and Gimmicks by
Hi, I really feel sorry for all these "newbies" in any hobby or interest.
There is so many unnecessary gadgets and gimmicks out there for them to
spend money on. I have been involved with the pet industry since around
1971. In the beginning I as a "newbie' wasted money on gadgets and...

Netting around plants? by
k conover
Any of you have creative ideas for netting around tall plants that are
sticking out of my pond? Right now I have a container from Home Depot of
various pond plants at the edge of the pond, and kind of have the netting go
across the pond and stop where the container is, but this leaves gaps...

Charcoal Filter by
Mike Bernardoni
Hi, I've never in 10 years had a problem with them. I guess it depends
on your pond, fish load, debris falling in pond etc. I know of numerous
people that use them successfully. I guess as with the lava rocks it
depends on the variables and conditions of your pond. That's the fun
thing about...
