wet/dry vac to clean pond bottom? by
O3raledale
Hello all,
Year two here with my little 6x4 pond, and there is a layer of mud, leaves and
assorted goo in the bottom of the pond. Can I stick a wet/dry vac hose in the
bottom of the pond then turn the vac on and suck up the muck? I figured if I
raised the hose out of the pond before I turned off...

Green Water woes...is my pump not adequate? by
TrishaH40
I have a 4 year old 550 gal watergarden. 1200 gph pump in a skimmer. All
summer long last year I had green water (until Oct.) I had lots of floaters
and o2-aters. I have 13 goldfish which I do not feed. A landscaper suggested
I get a larger pump and a larger diameter hose to the waterfall. ...

Early Mother's Day by
Ann in Houston
DH called Tuesday and told me he had gone to a wg nursery near his
store, and found a plant he wanted to get me for Mother's Day. He said he
couldn't remember the name of the water lily they had, but it was a special
shipment that was almost gone. He was so impressed by this lily. He said "I
didn't...

how does this work? by
Ann in Houston
I am planning a gravel bog addition to my koi pond. I was told about a
filter from Aquascape called the "Snorkel", which is made for this purpose.
Supposedly, you just sink a sump in the clean out once a year or so, and
there is no need for washing the gravel. Here is a link for a similar...

Suggestions for best filter plants by
Stephen M. Henning
I have a 20,000 gallon pond (17'x47'x2'-4') with just minnows, no Koi.
I put my filter plants directly in the pond rather than in a special
veggie filter. My pond is spring fed, so I need fairly aggressive
filter plants. The pond has stone wall sides (old swimming pool) but I
have greenhouse...

Sprouts in Pot by
Daniel Phillips
Late last week, I noticed some growth sticking up through the gravel
in the same pot as the Obedient Plant I have. It has doubled in size
since. Earlier this week, I noticed another sprout on the other side
of the plant.
I called the store that I ordered the plant from, and they suggested
that I...

My water is actually clear today. by
Mickey
This is the first time I have seen the bottom of my pond when it was not
empty. Maybe the Savio Skimmer, Jiffy filter, and Veggie filter which is no
more than a settling chamber right now are actually going to work this year.

When do the fry get color by
Remydog
I have several babies in my mixed pond (koi and goldfish). They were born
last summer and the bigger ones are over 3 inches, closer to 4. They are
still mostly black (goldfish, I'm told, though several look more like koi).
Some have begun to develop light and dark patterns on the scales and...

Koi feeding question by
Michael Shaffer
Is there any way to get teh fish to come to the surface while feeding
them? The thing is I'm not sure if he's eating the food since I've only
seen him one time while I was feeding him.

Help training shy Koi by
Edward Haworth
About 6 weeks ago I restocked the pond with some young Koi (~2" mixed
colour mostly but two 4" ghosts as well).
I appreciate that fish usally take a while to become acclimatised to a
new home but they have been constantly hiding, mostly grouped together
underneatha patch where the liner overhangs....

Top Fin Waterplants for Ponds @ PetSmart by
Ahhyeah
I bought some plants at PetSmart and can't figure out how to plant
them... Real simple, they are all in the plastic carton already but I
don't know which way is up. One end has a removable lid and the other
has a oval opening... I would think the oval opening would go up...
Thanks

Pictures of Veggie Filter and where I would like to put Lotus by
Mickey
The link should take you to pictures of my soon to be Veggie Filter. The
pond is a work in progress, so it is still rough around the edges. The water
is still a little cool 40 -50 deg F. I am thinking of putting pea gravel in
the bottom of the veggie filter this year and planting lotus seed and...

Siphoning Help by
Daniel Phillips
I bought a relatively inexpensive siphon that's for aquariums, the
Ultra Gravel Vac. Unfortunately, I must be doing something wrong
because it barely siphons. The picture displays putting the siphon at
an angle and apparently the siphon's tube must be lower than the
aquarium--the latter which...
