Ponds and bats by
[email protected]
I've always wanted a bathouse, but I read that they need a water
source within 50'.
Will a water garden act as that source?

Murky Pond by
Evil Noodle
I have a small pond which has been established for about six years,
has never been filtered and only contains a couple of 5" goldfish.
Wanting to finally do something with it all, (and seeing further down than
four inches would be nice) I bought a Fishmate pressurised filter with UV.
Now I'm sure...

OT ~ don't annoy the squirrels by
Ka30P
Set down the watergardening labradors tonight and read them this new story.
A Council Bluffs, Iowa, man learned the hard way — don't mess with the
city's black squirrels. Billy G. Cates, 18, was fined $325 last Tuesday for
letting loose his dog "with the intent to annoy, worry, maim, injure...

Toads by
John A. Kostelac
The last few nights have seen an increase in vocal activity around our pond.
Last night, it started to lose its beauty about 3 AM. I went out and in a
matter of 2 minutes counted a dozen and a half gulf coast toads (Houston,
TX). This morning the hornwort is covered with strings of eggs. On the...

NO2 = 0.3 mg/l
GH = 18
KH = 11
NH3/NH4 = 0 mg/l (barely any color at all in the test vial)
CO2 = 3.2 mg/l (according to a look-up table based on KH and pH)

Cheryl
Hi
Just bought a new Fish mate Pressurised UV-bio filter to replace my old
gravity box.
However my pump doesnt seem to want to work at all. It doesnt seem to be
sucking any water up. Weve cleaned it all out but nothing !
Is this anything to do with the new filter?
I know the pump is really old...

Great Stuff to Seal Leaks? by
GACinMass
While building a patio next to the pond (2500 gal, Permalon) I uncovered a 4' x
2' x 6" granite rock. Of course I just HAD to incorporate it into my pond's
shoreline. Using a lever and slowly rolling it on pipes I got it into position
and leveled it. It looks great! Unfortunately my pond now has a...

Trained Koi to Eat String Algae by
stricks760
By tying food pellets to the end of string algae, over the course of several
months I trained my Koi to eat string algae. I no longer have to feed them,
but have noticed that their fins are getting longer, narrower, and have a
greenish tint.
Let's see, today is what, April 1st?

Snails -- good or bad in a koi pond? by
Remydog
There seems to be conflicting information. Many of you are writing of your
snails' exploits, while others (dr-solo) say that they are detrimental to a
koi pond. Which is it?

Aqua UV Ultima 11 filters? anybody use these? The good and the bad please. by
The Dude
I was thinking of getting the 2000 model for a 1000 gal pond. I wanted
to know if they keep the pond clean and what kind of maintenance they
required other than backwashing. I have a Seqence 5800 series pump
which should be more than enough. My main objective is crystal clear
water. I know the...
