Anyone use tulle as a filter medium in a 'Skippy's Type" filter? by
Madison Lapierre
Tulle is used in dressmaking. Check
http://www.teuscherboston.com/images/wed05.jpg
to see what it looks like.
We've used it for two years and it seemed to work satisfactorily. We
have a few inches of black sludge on the bottom of the filter and are
told that there should be only sand and not...

How to clean a new pond??? by
Steve Shapson
I built a 22x22 ft pond last year, putting pump in this spring. There are a
few small goldfish already in it, 5-6 inches. There is a layer of green
algea on the bottom. Do I need to vacumn this all up before adding the pump?
How much organic matter is ok?
I will need about 80 feet of tubing to...

Inexpensive Bio Balls or Rock for Bio Filter by
TomM in NY
I want to switch from using pea gravel to a better medium in my bio filter
(made out of a plastic milk crate with cut to size furnace filter surrounding
the inside-the pea gravel was inside and my pump was in the middle of the pea
gravel).
I cannot believe how much bio balls are....seems pretty...

Crazy Fish by
Benign Vanilla
I went out to the pond this morning, and all nine fish were
fighting/thrashing around in the roots of some plant that I have growing
near the pond. The plants are rooted in the rocks, and they have grown long
roots into the pond. Some of the fish were working so hard to get into the
pile that they...

Lotus & Partial Shade Question by
Heather
Is there a lotus recommended for partial shade? In my case this would be
full sun for 3 - 4 hours and bright or dappled shade the rest of the day.
Will Lotus grow in 70 F water? That's about the warmest our pond gets.
Thanks in Advance,
Heather

OT - ka30p - OT by
kathy :-
For some reason my computer and/or aol has decided to block
me from rec.ponds via parental controls, even though parental
controls is not set for blocking.
Who knows if I can get this fixed, or if I have the time to
get it fixed... anyway, I signed on with google and will read
stuff here. Not as...

fish are hungry and I feel guilty by
Wilmoe
Hello. The temperature of my 350 gallon pond has been over 50 degrees for about
10 days now. I just installed a new pump and filter with UV. The water is
clearing up well. Now, all seven fish survived and they really seem hungry.
They all grew over the winter. Two questions to those that know...

formalin in kiddie pool by
Bill
I cannot find that particular site right now, but I am almost sure that I
read somewhere that when removing plants to a kiddie pool (salting the pond)
they should be treated with formalin. Does this sound right? If so what
does this do? If this is correct I'm sure the dosage was expressed...

Adjustable Mini Pumps? by
Freud
Hi:
I bought my wife an outdoor wall fountain and the pump that came with it
is intermittent and unpredictable. Sometimes it stops working, other
times it's too strong & the stream splashes all over. I suspect that at
least part of the problem is that pieces of leaves etc can get caught in
it,...

Has anyone seen firepit information online anywhere? by
Gareee©
I just watched a HGTV show where they built a firepit in the middle of a
pool/pond. It was run by gas, and the entore circular area had flames.
I'm wondering if there's a online source for building/buying something like
this.
My idea, if to use a circular kid's pool, painted black with Krylon...

Adding a waterfall to existing swimming pool by
Lara Hart
Does anyone know how or have experience with adding a waterfall to an
already exisiting pool? My issue lies in how to do the plumbing so that the
water can spill into the pool and getting the pool water to the waterfall. I
know I must use a fountain pump, but would like some more advice. Thank...

Mulch around pond? by
Randy
I would like to know if it is wise to use a cypress mulch around a pond to
cover up the dirt in the planting beds. Has anyone done this and do the wood
ships fly around, get in the pond, and cause problems. I really have dry
claylike soil and it is not pretty when it is dry. Are there...

Fish suggestions for recently installed stream by
tg
I have installed about a 75' stream in my backyard that is circulated with a
Sequence 1000-5800 pump. It is fairly shallow, about 12" - 16" in the center
channel area, 3 feet wide. I have a skimmer on one end. I figure I am moving
about 4000-4500 GPH after head/pipe losses so the flow is quite...
