The Best Damn Weekend of My Recent Life by
Benign Vanilla
Saturday night, the wife, the kids and I went to her parents for dinner. Big
hunka beef, a bottle of red. It was a great night. The next morning I was
suffering. Apprently I consumed most of the wine. So we wandered back to the
pond so I could finish up the cleanup, having drained it a bit the...

Salt in ponds by
seed lover
Hi all. This is my first time posting here, and I have a couple of
specific questions which I'll ask in separate posts . . .
I had fish die from (according to my local pond outfit) "mouth rot"
(see my next post).
After researching online, I learned that treating the pond with salt
is one of a...

a 4' X 8' oval shaped pond about 3 feet deep in center. Just removed the

Waterfall Help! by
Mostyn
Can anyone help, I need a detailed plan for a natural rock waterfall That I
would like to build on the edge of my pond.
I have no idea how to start it, I know I need a sump for the water but its
how to lay the liner and hide it and have the water run through the last two
layers of rocks.
Any...

Birds and the Bees and Koi and the... by
Benign Vanilla
Can someone go over the basics on spawning please? I always understood it
that the lady lays the eggs, and the man fertilizes the eggs externally. If
so, then why do the males beat the females up? What am I missing?

Minature cattails by
RED1102
Does anyone know how deep you should put cattails in your pond? I use to keep
them on a milk crate about 12 in under the water, then last year I moved it to
the edge. Now the pot sits about 3/4 into the water. I would like to drpo it
all the
way to the bottom of the pond but not sure if it would...

OT Sorta... by

I figger we're all geeks about large masses of water and filters, so it'd be
OK to ask you guys...
Last year we got one of those inflatable 15 foot Wallmart pools. I chuckled
about it at first, until I realized they are perfect. Set up in the summer,
take down in the fall. Shallow enough for my 3...

Damsel Flies Nypmhs by
Benign Vanilla
Last year, you may recall that I had damsel fly nymphs in an aquarium in the
house. Not on purpose. A few weeks ago, my wife reported seeing something
swimming in the same tank, which was odd because that tank had nothing but
snails and duckweed in it. I watched it for a bit, and sure enough 3-4...

Love is in the air... by

I went back to Shareholders Pond this morning, and 2-3 goldies were chasing
another goldie up and back, up and back, up and back. Me thinks them fishes
are getting ready to do the deed.

Water now running by
Bonnie
We finally got the pumps in the ponds and each is now
running into their veggie filters. They are not connected
together yet. I wanted to get the koi pond clear before I
connect the goldfish pond.
We're not making any changes to the pond this year. Just
going to sit back and enjoy it. It was...

blood worms by
Bill
As discussed in an earlier post, I went ahead and moved my egg crate
mattress pad to a different 'box', with plumbing. It serves as both
mechanical and bio filter and is fed by a filter which is primarily bio. I
noticed when I moved the material, there were a small number of blood worms
in the...

Can any Filter be turned into a Bio Filter by
Neil
I installed a pond a few years ago, installed by an acquarium shop.
The problem is that it used a typical acquariam filter. It never
really keeps the water clear even thoug i have a UV steralizer and a
fair amt of pond plants. My question- Can I simply buy bio balls or
other bio material and put...

Ammonia for Wildlife :/ by
Daniel Phillips
This morning, I saw another bird having a drink in the container water
garden. I've decided to go ahead and monitor ammonia levels each
week. Being new at this, can anyone tell me at what levels ammonia
levels in pond water would be unfit for drinking by anything,
particularly birds?
Sure, birds...
