Moving To New House WIth Koi by
JB
Help!
We're considering purchasing a new home about a mile away. I currently have
an 1,100 pond with 3 large (20"+) Koi and assorted goldfish. I don't want to
leave them behind but I don't have the time to build a new pond before we
move. I need some creative ways to keep the fish alive until a...

Need Pond Contractor in Chicago area by
John
My friend has a small pet shop, including fish store, in the near
north suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. She says she has been getting
quite a few inquirys, asking for help with pond maintenance, new
pumps, build a new pond, etc.
Does anyone know of a pond contractor or similar business...

Adding dechlorinator when topping up - kinda long by
Mike Patterson
Needed to top up the pond, my area uses Chloramine, so I have to use
dechlorinator.
The bottle said to add 1 capful for every 20 gallons of water, but how
many gallons did I need to add, and how to calculate it, and how do I
add the stuff?
Dump it into the pond before adding the water? Could that...

I was sitting by the pond and heard a frog, had to go in
search. I found him in the cattails. I guess Spring has
sprung in NJ.

pea soup by
[email protected]
Thanks to the spring algae bloom, my little pond is pea soup. Can't even
see the fish - they're staying down, though the last two days have been
warm (low 60s.)

No actually it was great! Thank you very much.
You wouldn't believe some of the smart comments I got from another forum.
The pond I have now is 5x11 3½ ft deep. I'm expanding next month to 15x15
4ft deep.
I want to do this pond right so I don't have to mess with it...

Gnat Question by
stricks760
Gnats, everywhere, swarming in little clusters. They don't bite or
anything, and generally mind their own business.
Does this indicate any problem? If I want them to become deceased, is there
a safe way to do it around the pond?

Help me identify these eggs by
Dave
Strings of eggs just appeared in our pond this morning. We have Koi
and goldfish. We've had a number of tadpoles, but these are
definitely not toad/frogs.
Can anyone identify these eggs?

DIY Bead Filter for Skimmer by
RichToyBox
Bead filters are the easiest filters to clean, which is what makes them
popular. There are better filters, but none that you can clean in a tux,
like the bead filters. I started out with just a skimmer with a bottom
drain feeding into the front of it and a bubble bead filter for my larger
pond. ...

Build an air back wash system by
Lee B.
Adding air to the filter is just plain GOOD. It will help agitate the beads;
it helps to keep them clean; it feeds oxygen to the biobugs; it adds oxygen
to the return water. Biobugs that are exposed to higher oxygen content grow
faster and do their work better; fish that have more oxygen grow...

skimmer vs bottom drainer by
Paul in Redland
Depends on what you want to do. They are both very effective at doing
different things. Kinda like asking 'Which is better, a sedan or a pickup
truck'. A bottom drain will keep the bottom clean if installed right. Won't
do a thing for crap in the water column, leaves, grass trimmings etc until
it...

Plants by
REBEL JOE
At what temp do you all bring your plants up from the bottom? I can look
in and see some of my plants have already started to pop up. The temp
this week is running in the 50s in day time and 40s to high 30s at
night. Should I put them up?

Kitty Litter Question by
Wayne
I've noticed that some of you use kitty litter (descented kind?) for pond
planting. Does the kitty liter absorb the water and stay settled in the pot
or does it try to float away like some of the dry potting soils that I have
tried? Any suggestions is appreciated.

That bio-filter has approx. 50 bags of lava rock. Last summer a young man
