Anyone know where I can get clay? by
scs0
The best growing plants I have ever seen tended to be rooted in smooth
and heavy clay soil. The plants really seem to root well into it, and
the soil doesn't seem to vanish as fast as other forms of soil. I
made the mistake of buying some of that Schultz aquatic plant soil
thinking it was chips...

Acupuncture to the rescue or starting up the season by
~ jan JJsPond.us
We've had several days in the high 60's hitting 71 one day, and it is
suppose to last a few more days. K30 reported hearing a Pacific Tree frog
up by the natural bog near our local grocery store. A sure sign to get the
frog ponds ready. K30, I know had done hers over the weekend.
I did mine today,...

When to Fertilize by
stricks760
My water lilly is approaching its first full season (planted last
September). It has about six leaves on it.
Since it's in 'new' soil, a mix of kitty litter and loam, do I need to
fertilize it? If so, when?
I'm in zone 10b (So. Cal) and, water temp is fluctuating between 60 and 70
deg F. When...

Zone 6...To Pump or not to pump? by
BenignVanilla
OK, I am growing impatient. I want to get the pump going so I can see if the
Bottom Drain will tug some of the leaves over to the VF. Ya think it's warm
enough yet in Zone 6? Bonnie is your pump on? Robyn? Any other Zone 6+'ers
out there?

Delurk/Southern California pond questions by
Josh Mills
Hello all. I live in orange county CA, only about 2 hours north of the
mexican border. So needless to say the climate here is pretty mild,
although we do get some cold winter days/night as low as the mid 30's a
few times a year. I was wondering what fish other than koi would be good
for my climate....

sign of spring by

We've had a couple of 60 degree days here in Baltimore. I went outside
today to look at the pond, and my painted turtle was swimming around.
When the weather cools againn, he'll go back to sleep for a while, but it
was nice to see he made it through another hibernation.
This means it's about...

Wanting to keep tads ALIVE this year. by
jammer
Hi,
I have the 70 gallon preformed pondlet in the backyard. Last year i
had lots of toad spawn. I put most of them in a plastic tub with
plants and shelter and food. They were dead in no time. I was afraid
of anomia spike in the small pond and that is why i moved them. This
year i am afraid if i...

Frogs are nice ... but ... by
Darren
Ok - everyone is talking about how nice it is that spring is coming and
frogs are croaking away. We like it too, but it is getting quite loud. It
doesn't bother us, but our neighbor came over (at about 10:30pm) and
actually said:
"I don't want to sound like a jerk, but can you turn down your tape...
