Lost fish in dead of winter by Simmons
I about a week ago, one of my fish came up from the bottom and started gasping at the deicer. This behavior was odd as I have never seen it in the 8 years I have had the pond. A few days later the fish was dead at the bottom. The other fish seem fine, but I am concerned as to what might be going...

Are fountains a good idea ? by Nick
I have a largish green pond. I know it needs more oxygen. The pond is quite large and only has 5 small gold fish in it which seem quite happy and active. Would they benefit from a fountain or would the noise disturb them ? Nick

Anti-Bird Netting by Ken Russell
I lost three of my biggest goldfish to an egret, so I bought some anti-bird netting which is a nylon type web with about 3/4 inch holes. It seems to me that a bird would not see the net (it's black) and could still cause havoc in the pond if it got tangled in the net. Have I chosen the wrong...

Snails, Frogbit and Duckweed by BenignVanilla
A status report... Over the summer I dumped some snail egg cases into a 10 gallon aquarium. They have been reproducing like...well like snails. I move some periodically to my main indoor tank. The loach loves them. Anyway, also in this tank is an umbrella plant. Doing well. Some frogbit and a ton...

I live in North Dakota and for the last week or so the temperature has been VERY cold. The night time temps have been as low as -28 degrees F for several nights with the daytime high temps staying below minus 10 degrees for about a week now. This is cold even for us natives. I have a small...
