Pond repair by
Bill Spohn
I have an old cement pond that has started leaking after 60 years. I do not
want to replace it with a membrane, both because I dislike the appearance and
because I do not want to disturb either the well established margins or the
large planted island in the middle of it (it is a large pond maybe...

Burning Down the Pond by
Mike Patterson
Really like my new pond, finally seem to have the surrounding drainage
problem and the Mysterious Water Loss After Heavy Rain problem fixed,
so now I'm thinking...
How about if I run black gas pipe out to the the back end of the pond,
put on a valve there, then something like icemaker tubing into...

Pond Heaters for Sale by
Craig
Hi,
I have several Coates heaters for sale that have the controls removed
for use as a pond heater. These are 11 kW heaters at 208/230v. Since
there are no controls, a seperate low temperature thermostat and
contactor or a manual switch will be needed to start the unit. They
do contain a flow...

Frogs and Lotus? by
Heather
We fell in love with frogs last summer. We have a resident female green
frog but know she will not lay eggs in the fish pond. We would like to
create a new home for her.
I would like to grow lotus as well.
If we build another pond will the frogs and lotus both be happy in the same
one? How...

Always a mine of useful information, I thought I'd ask if anyone

Any views appreciated.
I've not done this yet - but it sounds interesting. Have you found a
solution yet? Perhaps you...

holding pond net down by
k conover
hi, for any of you that like me, were using those pathetic toothpicks with
flags on them to hold your pond nets down, I found out that Wal-Mart has
some aluminum tent pegs (for around a dollar in the camping section) that
work wonderfully and really keep the net secure.

Polypropylene VS EPDM VS Permalon by
Han Chung
Hi,
I'm in the process of sourcing a liner for a hole I have dug. Where I
am in Australia, a 20' x 23' sheet of EPDM will set me back about $600
US.
So, I am looking for cheaper alternatives. How does Polypropylene
compare to EPDM? And how do they compare with Permalon? Are there
other...

White Film on Indoor Pond Liner by
manzara
hello,
I have an indoor pond that keeps developing a white film on the black
sides of the rubber liner (I have rocks on the bottom). Any idea why I
get this film? What is it? Should I remove it with an algae pad?
Thanks

High Nitrate Level for Koi by
MC
I brought my Koi indoors for the winter and am experiencing high
nitrate levels although I believe I have sufficient filtration. I have
read this isn't a big problem in some places, but on the test strips
and elsewhere read it was unsafe. I have about 100-150PPM. Is this
something to worry about?...

House Plants that cn be used in water? by
MC
I decided at the last minute to bring my Koi inside for the winter. I
saved only 1 pond plant. In Chicago, you can't easily find water
plants in the winter other than submersibles (anacharis) at the pet
store. Are there any common houseplants I could buy that will do well
submersed in water?

Algae on surfaces by

My pond is free from algae except for the surfaces of the liner and hoses
etc. My wife says we should get rid of all of it, but I think the surface
covering is good for the fish.
Am I right?

Green water by

We've just built a pond and waterfall - silly time of year to do this here
in the UK, I know, but if we hadn't, we'd spend the money on something else
and still have a crappy garden come summer :o)
Anyway, because it's the wrong time of year, we have no plants or fish in it
yet but it is a...
