Clawfoot Bathtub Ponds by PJGolden1
I'm trying to convince my husband to let me have a relative's clawfoot bathtup to create a pond under our covered patio. He thinks I'm nuts.....I think he's without vision... Anyway, after doing a google search, I kept finding the term "bog" coming up. Is there a book that anyone could reccommend...

Rosie Reds and Comets by DePonder
Ok.. I added 6 of each to help control the mosquitoes. Just how big do they have to be before they will reproduce? I noticed some cute little baby fishies under my waterfall last week. I was so excited... until I started my weekly maintainance on Saturday and found that there are at least a...

Should I take the algae out of my pond by Michael Shaffer
In the last two weeks the algae has really taken off. Both waterfalls are covered in string algae and the veggie pond is lined with some other moss-like algae. Is this good or bad? I don't know if I should take some of it out or not.

Calculating Surface Area by Lynn Strickland
Easy! Length times width, right? Question is, my (soon to be) pond will have about 104 square feet of surface area. There is a waterfall, with a series of smaller 8" deep pools that cascade into the pond. The waterfalls and their pools comprise about 34 square feet of surface area. When sizing...

A plea from the froggies by groovy
Yesterday I had a bonfire. Luckily I checked the piles of garden rubbish before putting them on the fire, as I found loads of frogs that I returned to the pond. Even though the rubbish was very dry, the frogs were still hiding in it. So as we enter autumn/fall can I pass on a plea from the froggies...

Losing water through capillary action by Sam Hopkins
Normally around a rec pond there's clay under the dirt to make a water tight seal and to stop water movement into the surrounding area. You might want to pull the liner through the dirt at the top and put rocks on the top of the liner to conceal. This would seperate the pond dirt from the earthen...

How Many Water Lillies? by Lynn Strickland
My (soon to be) pond will have an area that's about 6 feet wide by about 12 feet long, designed for water lillies - on the skimmer end of the pond. How many plants would I put in? I have a shelf built in, that's about 12 inches wide and 24 inches long. How many water lillies could I plant in that...

Lotus - Fall Action by EliezerE
I'm in Zone 5, Chicago, and I finally got one, my first ever, bud on my lotus a week ago. It is slowly growing, but I have a feeling that all I can expect this year is the frustration of ALMOST having gotten it to bloom.

Dragon nymph by Sam Hopkins
I have a very small wooden barrel (about 18" wide) with a bunch of cattails, 2 inches of water, 1 goldfish, and 14,000,000 guppies outside my front door. I walked out there the other day and saw a dragon nymph had moved it. It was funny because it kept flying in a tiny circle following the...
