Building a spillway by John Rutz

What is? (Shareholders Pond) by Anne Lurie
Thanks, BV, for the explanation -- and special thanks to bobkiely for asking the question that I, for one, had not dared to ask! I'm not only a newbie to rec.ponds, but I apparently have something set wrong on Outlook Express so I don't get all the posts in a thread -- I'd like to claim...

feed mosquito fish in winter? by Anne Lurie
Man, it's amazing what I will do to distract myself from an approaching thunderstorm -- I have no interest whatsoever in fish of any ilk, but I did find this website http://www.webcityof.com/miffidx.htm to purports to be a Master Index of Freshwater Fishes. BTW, assuming Lydia did not *steal*...

Ultimate Lotus Garden by ~ jan JJsPond.us
How deep are your pots? Since I have permission to do another pond just for the lotus, I'd like to densely pack one and then use it as feeder for a stream down the road. Could I use shallow, but wide potts and sit them in the pond? BV. 6"-7" deep, guessing without measuring. ~ jan See my...

ossprey got one of my koi by LisaCS1
We were the victim of several Heron attacks this spring and then put up a scarecrow near where we feed them. We lost four fish within a two week period, but haven't had any more visitors since the scarecrow went up. Must be doing his job.

Stressed out Fish by LisaCS1
Your fish will not starve as there's plenty for them to eat in the pond. You were the victim of a predator, maybe a Heron, like we had several times in the spring. Your fish are afraid right now, but will come around in another day or so. We put out a scarecrow to keep the Heron away and so far...

??Predator Quiz?? by Anne Lurie
I'd guess the culprit was a great blue heron, as I think a 13" fish might be bit tough for the smaller green heron to manage. As for not noticing a great blue heron, I assumed that Chad meant there was no one home between 6:30 am & 5:30 pm to see the GBH (birder's jargon). Anne Lurie Raleigh, NC
