Algae Bar by
cbbode
Anyone ever hear of an "Algae Bar" consisting of a short tubular rod
like bar with copper ends and silver middle?
It is advertised to be one solution to the problem of pond algae. I
bit and purchased one. After about a week my water did clear up and
has remained relatively clear since. I am not...

TX's central coast line?
Anyone on here have to worry about that, live close to the coast line?

Biological warfare? by
Bill Stock
I read something here a while ago about plants (Water Lettuce) and Algae
exchanging chemical attacks. Is there anything to this or is it just an old
wives tail? The reason I ask is that my Water Hyacinth is dying off, it's
all turning brown and mushy around the edges. The leaves that are...

Tip for pond newbies - at the risk of experienced ponders rolling their eyes by
///Owen\\\\\\
To tell the truth, I'm a bit of a newbie myself, but all my fish survived
the Winter. We actually gained a couple. I put in an aquarium aerator (the
pond is about 1000 gallons) which is on all the time - Summer and Winter.
The benefits of this $15 item are many. Obviously there is always plenty...

Maybe a different trap.
We once used one and used ham lunch meat.
Worked great.

20050719 Welcome to rec.ponds by
Anne Lurie
Welcome to rec.ponds!
You are welcome here if you really want to know about ponds, fish, plants,
and all things water garden-related!
However, crossposting, for the most part is very, very UNwelcome -- and,
dang, where did I leave that pesky cross-posting filter, anyways?

Plants are not growing by
Pam
Hello,
This is my pond's second year. It is somewhere around 800 gallons. It has
a skippy type filter with no plants which flows into a kiddie poll plant
filter which then goes back into the pond. It has a very low fish load and
two large bullfrogs. The fish and frogs are thriving. Everything...

Adopted a turtle by
Mike Patterson
Couple weeks ago a friend of my daughter asked if I'd take the red-ear
slider they got from someone else. I have a 15x25 pond averaging
around 20" deep, around 1,350 US gallons..
They were keeping this 7" turtle in a 10-gallon glass aquarium, I felt
sorry for it and said "yes".
The little booger...

Pumps & oil slicks by
~ janj JJsPond.us
Is there a natural oil in the Mag-Drive pumps? I have a Supreme 500 that I
got last year and I just found a small slick (covering about 1/5th of the
pond, sort of contained by the lily pads). Everything seems to be working
fine. Water temp 82F. ~ jan

Surviving in the Wild by
pixi
My question is this or perhaps it should be questions. There are natural
ponds all over the place, many with fish in them. No one cleans them,
watches the PH, the ammonia, or anything else. Some have inlets and outlets
but most do not so the only fresh water they get is from rain.
So how do...

Successful racoon defense by
emceemc
I took several old tomato cages. With wire cutters I cut them up,
twisted them, interlocked them, and anchored them with wire and fishing
line to 4 heavy flagstones. The stones are also set to create crevaces.
My idea was to keep the racoons from sweeping their arms through
the water and herding...
