Large carp -smallish pond by Snoddywig
Some years ago, we bought what were supposed to be baby ghost koi. Two survived, one a typical ghost koi silver & white in colour. The second one (Jaws) just grew and grew and looks more like a crusian carp than anything else. We made the pond bigger - but he grew and grew. He is now about...

question about snakes by Doug Quarnstrom
What is your experience with garter and bull snakes. I presume that both eat koi, but I also assume that there is some point at where a koi is too big for a garter snake to kill. What about Bull snakes? Are they a threat to big koi? doug

That rotating heron chaser by ~Roy~
For what its worth..Here is what I came up with that WILL work and saave a bundle of money in the process to do exactly what this item does. I posted this on the Koiphen forum earlier, but if someone here is interested in making their own, it is simple. Lots of room to make deviations and...

got my algae bloom by [email protected]
2 week old pond, I was waiting for it and the other day I woke up and sure enough, it was green and murky. DOH! Can I get some opinions on whether my pond sounds like it has the right mix of stuff so that hopefully this will clear soon? ~120 gallons, 3' x 3' x 2' box. Plants:

Pump advice re deck water feature by [email protected]
I have a pair of heron statues that are piped as fountains. I'd like to incorporate them in a small water feature for my deck (standing in a shallow basin ~3' in diameter). One of the statues is 42" tall and the other is 36". They are piped with 7/16" O.D. tubing for (I assume) 1/2" input...

Deformed Water lily leaves by Reel Mckoi
About a month ago I put 4 good size water lilies in the larger pond. All were healthy, well formed and had buds. Two are doing fantastic but the other two suddenly started to produce deformed leaves. They deform where the stalk joins the leaf itself causing puckering. It reminds me of...

Fry development by Andy
Hi, My goldfish/comet/shubunkin fry hatched a month ago and I'm wondering about their growth. About 10 or so are at least 4x bigger than the rest. Some are still very small, maybe 0.5cm. The smaller ones seem to have very long proportions and look more like a head tapering off to the tail - no...

Pond update - the frogs have come by mark Bannister
The frogs have come! The frogs have come! It doesn't take them long. Ponds been up 3-4 weeks. We had a big rain the other night and had 3-4 green frogs hopping all over the pond. Quite tame. They will just sit there while you stroke them. I guess all I have to do now is wait for the neighbors to...

Water Flow reduction - pump or line problem? by Darren
My pond has been going just fine for a couple years now but lately, I have seen a decrease in water flow. When pumps fail, is it a "working" / "not working" scenario or is it a water flow just slowly starts going down? For some reason, I thought pumps kind of worked or they didn't. If they...
