Leather coral open, closed, open, closed by
miskairal
Hi all,
I bought a leather coral on the 6th December and it keeps opening and
closing a lot. Sometimes it is open for days and then closed for days
and at other times it is open during the day and closed at night. It has
shed a mucous type stuff a few times which sort of looks like when you
peel...

Curing Live Rock: Lights On? Lights Off? by
Mark Henry
Hello everyone!
As I mentioned in a post earlier this week my new 65g marine tank is in
its second week of cycling. I've got 90# of live rock in it and have had
the lights running on their timer ever since I set the tank set up and
everything in the tank (and I do mean everything) is covered in...

New 50 Gallon, so confused! by
[email protected]
I have recently received a new 50 gallon glass tank for Christmas.
Merry Christmas to me. I have kept smaller sal****er tanks for several
years (3-12 gallon Eclipses) and have had great success. However, I am
lost with this newest endeavor. I have read volumes of information now
in attempt to find...

CPR skimmer mod by
[email protected]
Hi folks,
I have a CPR SR in sump skimmer. It skims very well as long as there is
sufficient air getting to the pump. The little elbow fittings seem to
clog easily, and I want to replace the Rio pump with a maxi-jet 1200.
According to one website, amekaaquatics.com, you can get a venturi
fitting...

Overflow rates by
shubey
I'm attempting to determine the flow rate of an overflow box for a new reef
tank which is in the design stage. I have a formula provided to me by a
civil engineer that I think is applicable, but would like to know how others
have gone about determining their overflow rates.
Sharp-crested...

Lighting over 36"x18" tank by
Pszemol
Hi, I plan to put "Outer Orbit" fixture over my 50 gallon tank:
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=12779
All-Glass Tank dimensions are as follows: surface 36"x18", hight 18".
It will be DSB setup, so the water column will be only 14" high.
I wonder if one 150 W double...

Wow...what a great company!! by
Susan
Placed an order for livestock from liveaquaria.com on Dec 26th. Waited for
the order and called them several times to see why I hadn't received it.
The last time I called them they said due to them not getting the ball
rolling on the order that Dr Race Foster wanted to give me the complete
order...

GARF by
[email protected]
Hello all,
Anyone have any opinion on or experience with GARF's "bulletproof
reef"? It's a very simple, low cost system--uses a plenum, 3-4 tubes
of NO flourescent lighting, no sump, no skimmer even for six months.
It seems like a nice alternative to some of the setups you see
online--for...

Jonathan Dickie
I live in Scotland, East Coast (near border) 80 miles North of Newcastle.
Wondering if any fellow seahorse keepers would be interested in swapping fry
or even selling fry or adult seahorses to me. I have been keeping the
Estuary Seahorse, a Kuda species, sometimes also know as spotted,...

o2 bubbles? by
Mark Henry
Hello everyone!
My new 65g reef tank is in its second week of cycling and is growing
brown algea at a prodigeous rate. This in itself doesn't bother me as
it's a normal part of cycling and once everything settles down I'll add
some herbivors in to snack away. What's caught my eye is the HUGE...

Shaving Brush Plant by
Craig J
About 7 weeks ago I started a 110 gal reef tank with about 100 lbs of
LR.
After two weeks and a good buildup of brown alge, I added a 12 hermit
crabs, 6 snails and a lawnmower blenny.
A week later I added three soft corals.
At the one month point the water test was:
ph: 8.2
