Building my first sump by
Layer3guru
I want to build a sump for my 55gallon, it is not predrilled and I
can't/won't drill it, mainly due to the fact that it is already setup with
some soft corals and live rock. I looked at the LFS today and they have 20
gallon high on sale for $21.99 which I thought was not bad. But is this the
right...

pvc pipe vs hose by
John B
ok, i've reasoned with myself why arcrlic is better than glass, but I need
help with pvc pipe vs pvc hose...I'm guessing pipe has longer life? and
easier to put ball valves and stuff on it? I dunno,
I'm getting ideas flying by me about sumps but the basic layout will be
easy, but just got...

protein skimmer issue by
BigHaig
Guys,
When I setup my tank, I bought a "Hang-On Wet/Dry Filter" with a built in
Protein skimmer. I did this because there is very little space where the
tank is. I literally cut a hole in the wall and dropped it in there.
Anyway, foam does get created by the protein skimmer, but the foam does...

Modular Live Sand System Possible? by
Timothy Tom
The concept of a modular live sand system has crossed my mind on
occassion, and I was interested in feedback from the NG. It seems
possible to develop a modular system for live sand (or live rock for
that matter) in which the LS or LR is placed in a box (perhaps half
full with the substrate and...

how to clean algae cleaner? by
Joe V.
I just ordered a MagFloat to replace some of my older algae cleaners. Just
curious what everyone does with respect to cleaning/maintaining the cleaner
itself ... with my older ones, I just rinsed with R/O water and kept it
aside. But, I don't think this really cleaned it, and finally...

ALGE !!!! by
JimC
I have this alge and I have been scrubbing it away for about 2 months.. This
is getting old very fast.. I was wondering if any one has a suggestion on to
rid my tank of this ?? The LFS told me to let it grow and that will allow it
to remove all the nutrients that it feeds on and it will die off.. I...

White Crab by
Ken
I just noticed a small pure white crab, about the size of a nickle, in the
branches of some pulsing Xenia I bought yesterday. Does someone have a good
ID site for crabs? I did the regular searches and could not find much. I am
working all weekend but will try to get a picture posted.
Thanks
Ken N.

Problem with Low Alkalinity by
MarkW
I was just doing some measurements on my fishtank and my Ph is at 8.1
and my Calcium at 370. I've never managed to get it this high
actually, it's usually around 340. I'm not sure what's holding it
down and my magnesium is around 1050. Anyway, I tested my kh and it's
at 5.1/1.83 and usually it's...

Crushed Coral by
skozzy
I removed the crushed coral from my tank and replaced it with a fine sand, I
was wondering that with the crushed coral if I put some of it in a bucket of
fresh water with a low pH, will the calcium leach back out and if so can I
use that fresh water to do the top off's on the tank with the coral ?

Like watching grass grow... by
Toni
First I thought the research phase would take forever- it seemed I would
never get a handle on the most basic of reef issues.
Then came the assembling- waiting for equipment shipments and redoing the
plumbing yet again- it seemed an uphill battle just to get two aquariums
plumbed together.
Then...

marineland magnum 350 by
John B
Anyone use one of these? I saw one at work and thought it was nifty because
it's just a powerhead with a micron filter in it! I thought it'd be
wonderful since I don't have a sump. Anyone have any experience with this?
