what's wrong with my car? by
Michael Hamm
I drive a Ford Taurus L. Yesterday or two days ago, I turned the car off
and walked away. When I came back a few minutes later, it was dripping
green fluid from the near the front of the car. I shopped, and it did the
same near the store. I'm pretty sure it hasn't done so since, but now
there's...

Air conditioning system - what is its BTU power ? by
Pszemol
Romm air conditioners are rated in amount of heat they can suck out
of the room measured in BTU/hour. I wonder, if you compare room A/C
units to car units - how much stronger the car unit has to be ?
Do you know what is an average BTU/hour for a car A/C system?
Just rough number - is is 10000 BTU...

Pontiac 3.4 Auto Trans Change ?? by
[email protected]
I just went to check my auto trans fluid on my 2000 3.4 Pont GA
and instead of dribbling out as it theoretically should
I lost about 2 quarts through the chck hole. I'm assuming
I have the right one as it's fairly near the oil drain plug
on the right side facing sort of right.
It's a 3/8" head...

Non-Metallic Feeler Gauge by
HG
I want to adjust the sensor air gap in my Volvo-Penta I/O. The Clymer's
manual says use a non-metallic feeler gauge (note: non-metallic, not
non-magnetic). I've checked all around and cannot find one. A google
search of non-metallic feeler gauge bring up references to it's use for some
autos,...

Overheating and headgaskets by

My car when idling does not overheat at all. If does overheat when it
is in drive. Does that mean that the headgaskets are gone or could it
be something else? Thanks.

Another hypothetical situation by
In looking over some of the evaluations of late model automobiles, very few
were given a smiley face
where road noise was concerned.
I have ridden in some cars where the rumble from the front suspension, road
noise, wind noise were
nearly unbearable. Now, maybe in the higher end cars of similar...

Issues With Extremely Low Milage Used Cars by
[email protected]
I have run across a '94 car with only 7000 actual miles. It is a widows
car that only drives a very short distance to the store and back. I
would guesse it is city miles. This is actual mileage (we know the
widow). The average usage is ~13 miles a week. I am not sure what kind
of maintenace has...

valve train noise or worse ? by
carl
Hi,
Can I bring another question to this forum ? I looked at the archives, but
found nothing similar for this noise pattern or situation. And I wonder what
a mechanic would say, given lash values are correct for most of the dealers.
My car has had valves tightened a bit too much, now they're at...

best head gasket for 90 EX 16V by
Ryan Underwood
Hi,
We are getting a new rebuilt head and head bolts for the 90 Accord EX (16V
SOHC) with 200k as soon as we confirm a burned valve on the old one. What is
the recommended head gasket for this application, aftermarket or OEM? And
what, if anything, should be done to the (aluminum) block to ensure...

High-Voltage Coil Creates Hole in Pistons? by
64bird
I have a 64 Thunderbird with a rebuilt 390 (stock) with aftermarket
intake, carb, and cam. I read a post somewhere that adding a
high-voltage coil can cause the spark to jump and thus burning a hole
in stock pistons. The idea is that the engines were not designed to
handle more than 30,000 volts....

Honda versus Toyota by

I have been thinking about trading out of my American iron, and going with
something more economical.
We have long discussed here how Toyota and Honda seem to have the edge on
lower priced cars for economy, quality and dependability.
But it seems to me that Honda has had its share of...

Electric motor assisted super- or turbocharger? by
Max Kallio
2-stroke diesels need compressed air for starting the engine, so the
turbo (exhaust driven centrifugal supercharger) is out of a guestion
and it produces very little boost at low rpm anyhow.
How about supplementing a centrifugal turbocharger with a high speed
electric motor to create boost needed...

87 Mazda 626 - trying to remove front brake rotor by
Williams
Need some help here. I'm trying to remove the front brake rotor from an 87
Mazda 626 (pulsing brakes - probably a warped rotor). With the wheel and
brake caliper off, there is nothing that appears to hold the rotor on. But
banging on the rotor and a reasonable amount of force with a puller,...

Question about Toyota timing-belt repair by
[email protected]
Hello. I have a 1998 Toyota Camry LE. The engine is a 2.2-L, 4-cylinder
engine.
The car is, obviously, about 7 years old. However, the car has only
28000 miles on it.
Recently, a Toyota dealership performed an oil change. As part of the
oil change, the dealership performed a routine inspection...

obviously my car was starting fine, he just reset the light and said
everything was...

Did a brake flush damage my master cylinder? by

I recently had the brake fluid flushed on my '95 Honda Civic (80k
miles). A week later I noticed my brake pedal would slowly sink to the
floor while I was waiting at red lights. I took the car back to the
service center (part of a large national chain), and they correctly
determined that the master...

impact. The only choice they had in stock were the DeWalt cordless...
