NAPA vs. Autozone vs. O'Reilly... price and quality? by
phaeton
Using online catalogues, i've priced out the parts to rebuild the
front end on my truck. (In-store pricing might be slightly different)
This will mean 2 upper control arm assys, 2 lower ball joints, control
arm bushings all around, and inner and outer tie rod ends for both
sides.
At NAPA, it's...

Engine oil and Sludge by
Dennis[_2_]
My wife drives a 2001 Jeep Wrangler six cylinder. We bought it new and it
has 74,000 miles. She works 1 1/2 miles from home, so I'd say 70% of the
miles are from short trips.
I installed new valve lifters this weekend and when I removed the valve
cover I was shocked to see how much sludge was...

why I wont buy that 1990 Chevrolet RV van from a neighbor who lives in

Unwanted Complexity by
Vic Smith
I'm doing the lower intake gasket on my '97 Lumina.
160k miles, and hasn't failed, but since they are known to fail, I'm
not taking any chances since I decided to keep it a couple more years,
and do the annual Florida trip again. That's about 3K miles total..

Toyota struggles to stop runaway crisis by
john
"Remarkable doesn't begin to describe what's happening to Toyota Motor
Corp.
Its reputation for delivering safe, reliable, quality-engineered
vehicles is in tatters. Governments from Tokyo to Washington, clearly
on the muscle, are pressuring the automaker to act openly and quickly.
Toyota's...

Offboard hybridization by
AD[_2_]
A thought occurred to me last night: why do you need to bother with
lugging a huge battery onboard
when you could just flush the battery and the motor(s) into the floor
of a purpose built trailers.
This solves the the hard winter starts problem and awd (lack of it)
problem for BRZ in winter

Tire Pressure Monitor by
Luke
I have a 2004 Cadillac CTS-V (w/ Corvette Z06 LS-6 engine). Recently, I had
my tires rotated, and now the display for the tire pressure is wrong. It
reports the pressure for the back tires as the front tires. The Cadillac
dealer wants $15 to "recalibate" the system, but I'd like to do myself....

Best MPG : 5-speed vs. auto? by
SQ
Assuming an identical car, let's say a 4-cyl Honda or a Subaru or
Toyota, which would
get better MPG -- one with automatic tranny or 5-speed?
I understand that 5 speeds vs. 4 gives a better selection of rpms,
meaning at the same speed you can cruise with lower rpms, assuming the
same rear axle...

Jumping car incident by
Bruce Chang
Okay, so I'm a bit ****ed that I let this happen but nonetheless, it
happened and there's no way to go back in time to fix it so here's my
problem.
A couple days ago, I noticed a car alarm going off and it sounded faint so I
didn't think much of it. Later when I went out to my car, I noticed that...

Replacing front tires by
Wally[_1_]
Hi.
I have an '89 Olds car with 4 Goodyear Aquatred tires on it.
I need to replace the front pair of tires as the car will not pass
state inspection because of tread depth. I want to just replace the
front tires as the rear tires are still in good shape, tread-wise.
Question I have is that the...

head thread repair on aluminum block by
Ryan Underwood
We are working on a Honda 90 Accord, F22A4 open deck aluminum block. One of
the head bolts pulled the threads out on removal. This was not noticed until
the head was repaired and reassembly was attempted.
The threads are recessed approximately 2 inches below the deck surface. The
head bolts are...

The Way to Paradise by
algagaa
We are all in quest of true happiness. In this world, the idea of
true/perfect happiness is not feasible because this world is
inevitably doomed to total annihilation. True happiness is found only
in dwelling upon Paradise, and enjoying its blessings. However, none
would enter Paradise except...

Which electric car is best? by
[email protected]
Hi all,
I'm interested in going electric, since all the trips
that I make are short and on local roads, and
electricity is so cheap.
I am curious to learn whether any one electric car
has stood out as being both a good value.
Needless to say, Consumer Reports has never
reviewed electric cars. But...
