Rubbing the tire on the road, is it really mathematically simple? by
micky
When I was in high school I was taught, or I read, that it's bad to turn
the steering wheel when the car is not moving. It's hard on the front
tires, wears out the tread, and one should be moving the car at least a
little when turning the wheel. Did they say that? Do they still?
I've been...

OBD emission test question by
LenS
I took my 1997 Mazda Protege in for its Illinois periodic emission
test last week. Happily, it passed, but I have a question about the
test itself.
Beginning now, Illinois is checking the OBD in all vehicles
manufactured in 1996 and later INSTEAD of the exhaust test for
hydrocarbons and...

General Motors Dex-Cool problem by
kr0
There appears to be an issue with GM's Dex-Cool engine coolant. Consumers
have had problems with the cost of repairs as a result of the Dex-Cool
antifreeze not working as it was supposed to. If you check out
http://www.lawyersandsettlements.com/case/dexcool2 they have the information
and what you...

Cavalier fuel tank heat shield fasteners are ... by
George[_1_]
'99 Cav 4-dr. I have to replace the gas tank. The book says "Remove
the heat shield." Most of the fasteners therein are a little hard to
make out - they're sort of truss-head things, with a small cavity in
cap. They kind of look like rivets, but I'd think they'd say "drill out
the f***ing...

Why do car manufacturers charge so much for replacement parts? by
gassyal
Hi group:
I've been considering purchasing an old Geo Metro for commuting
purposes because of the good gas mileage it gets.
When I looked at a 1997 Geo Metro offered for sale in my area by a
private party, he told me that he owned the car about 6 months and when
he acquired it, he had to put a...

Can a cell phone set off a car alarm? by
DanK
We have a 2004 Toyota with a factory installed car alarm. The alarm
goes off randomly. Sometimes a few times a day, some days not at all.
No physical disturbance is setting it off (it does it even sitting in
our closed garage). However, we noticed that it seems to happen when
my daughter's cell...

fuel consumption enigma by
carl
Hello,
I have been searching to find info on this problem. The car is a
Mitsubishi Space Star 1.3 16 V 1999.
Normal consumption averaged 6.2 l / 100 km. After a while, but
suddenly, fuel consumption lowered, starting at 5 l to even 4 l / 100
km. And this on average and instantaneous rate.
A fill...

Diag Trouble Codes - Changing Thresholds by
[email protected]
I recently purchased Digimoto OBDII Vehicle Diagnostic Software. I have
a 1999 Toyot 4-Runner. The Check Engine light has been on for a few
weeks. Using Digimoto, I was able to find the cause (Catalytic
Converter Flow Threshold Exceeded) and clear the DTC. I am certain that
the Check Engine light...

Help me identify a crimp connector by
Nate Nagel[_2_]
I'd search for it but don't know how to properly describe it so the
googs knows what I want... basically I would like to install a rearview
mirror with the compass/temp display in my old Jeep. (there was an
optional overhead console, but it's rare and expensive.) I need a
couple connectors to...

Question on Hondas by
danl
Hi, I'm looking for a 1998 to 2001 Honda civic sedan 5spd 4 cyl.
Anything in particular I should watch out for. I figure the mileage
will run from about 90,000 to 150,000. I have been told if it has not
been done the timing belt would be a good thing to replace right off.
Anything else besides...

Viper2
I'm reaching out to those Chrysler/Plymouth gurus out there for help.
I'm almost done with this vehicle, despite replacing the head gasket
and exhaust system recently. Here's what has happened -
1 - Started the car to leave the office, it stalled out and wouldn't
restart. I have ample spark and...

Best way to find carburetor vacuum leak by
Masospaghetti
Hi all --
I'm pretty sure my car has a major vacuum leak around the carburetor, as
the car will start and only run for a few seconds and is impossible to
keep running. In addition there is a whistling noise. I've checked the
vacuum lines and they look okay; i'm worried though that a line that I...

Fish Carburator by
Landen Schooler
Hi folks,
Is anyone currently building a Fish type carburator?
If no one is making new ones, I'd like to find a M-3,
or one of the larger ones the Brown built. I have a
Jeep I'd like to put one on just to play around with.
Thanks,

Cleaning fuel injectors question by
Dan Ritter
My engine has been running rough lately. One possibility I thought
could be the injectors. I know it could be a lot of other things. I've
heard that most injector cleaners that you add to the gas aren't all
that good. I started wondering what is in the stuff. I imagine it's
just a solvent...

Stalls after fixed time - second go 'round by
Tom Del Rosso
Last week I posted about the 1992 Acclaim (4 cyl, 124k miles) that stalls
after exactly 20 minutes at highway speed. Anything over 40 mph seems to do
it.
My mechanic couldn't test drive it long enough (he's not very near a
highway) to recreate the problem. He said the hall effect sensor had...
