Emissions test failure - no OBDII communication by Mark[_27_]
I have a '97 Lexus ES300 (131K miles). My Connecticut Emissions test failed today due to no OBDII communication. The guy said he couldn't get a reading. He suggested it could be as simple as a blown fuse or as complex as the computer itself. I did some search on google and various forums. It was...

air filter brand and change interval question by Ashton Crusher[_2_]
So, aside from oil and filters, what are people doing for air filter change intervals, do you follow the maintenance schedule in the owners manual, or ???? Most of my vehicles have called for changes at around 15 or 20K miles and that's more or less when I change the filter. Only exception is if...

'84 Toyota Cressida: Runs Fine, But Every Dash Warning Light Is Lit. Thoughts On ? by Robert11
Hello, Here's an interesting one. My wife has a '84 Toyota Cressida waggon. Her pride and joy; very low mileage on it, about 43 K only. Best car we ever bought. Live outside of Boston, and car has always been left outside. Car starts up just fine as always, and seems to run just fine.

gas gauge reading by cpliu
I drive a 94 Camry which still works great after 180K miles. I've been record the gas gauge reading trying to know fuel efficiency in the past few years. I'm a little puzzled on how it works and the accuracy of the reading. My observations: I suspect the sensor is in the front part of the tank as...

Rotary Engines *VS* Turbines by 2.7182818284590...
Both of these engines combust fuel and a non-reciprocal motion occures. Both cases produces a circular motion. However both of these engines are quite different. What explains the differences in power output and efficiencies? They are different in the following ways: 1. The turbines are very...

auto fridges and other "novelty items" by [email protected]
I see no autofridges from reputable sources where I live, do you get anything from Whirlpool or some other reputable manufacturer in the US of A? OT for those in the US of A: for some reason amazon.com shows hardly any gas clothes dryers, what's available is korean and hardly inexpensive. Why gas...

Low Oil Pressu OW-40 OK? by Scott Buchanan
1995 Grand AM four cylinder 150,000 miles. Burns about 1qt of oil in 4000 miles. No oil leaks after re-torqing cam covers. The car runs flawlessly. The oil pressure goes up to 80 PSI when cold but drops off to about 12 when hot at idle with the specified 5W-30 oil. The in dash gage was verified...

Buy cheapest gasoline? by J J
There have been numerous articles saying there is no difference between cut rate and major brand gasoline. They say buy by price alone. The few times I have purchased cheap no brand name gasolines I have regretted it. Car is hard to start, or when running it runs rough, it pings under load....

Would it save my BMW to lower the radiator pressure cap from 30psi to 15psi by Brent[_8_]
From reading what goes wrong with BMWs, one scary well known flaw is the lousy leaking plastic radiators. Since BMW apparently puts 30psi pressure caps (marked 200, or 2 Bar) on these plastic radiators, I wonder if simply changing the pressure cap to something more akin to what the US...

Question for dealership auto techs by CraigFL[_1_]
I would guess that in most places it would be illegal for the employer to collect this from the employee unless the "employee" was an independant contractor(in which case there would probably be a legal agreement anyway). These are part of the "normal" business expenses which the business owner is...

Guess on horsepower??? by Willis
Good afternoon all, Maybe this is an amateur question, but based on the build specs below, does anybody have a rough idea (or ballpark guess) of what kind of horsepower this engine could generate? I have yet to get my car dyno'd. If it's something that can't be figured out just by looking at the...

Speed limiter wanted Does any car come with a speed limiter like this? I do not want to worry about speeding and would like to be able to set my top speed to 35 mph, or 55 mph, etc. while driving. How Many Miles Are A Lot? by phaeton
....on modern cars. I realize that driving habits and how well you take care of the car is the single biggest factor that affects how long it lasts. Sure, some cars are real stinkers, but have any of those been made in a while? Seems that when I was a little kid (think mid-late 70s, think...
