keeping the fish swimming by
jw
hi, i have a very small tank 20 x 20cm and just six neon tetras in it. the
pump is one of the smallest and just agitates the top surface of the water.
however even pointing the nozzle at the surface it seems to set up a tide of
movement in the water that keeps the fish swimming against it. there...

WHY DO FISH GET GLAZED EYES ?? by
Jim
Hello everyone:
Every now and again, I see a fish (for example a Bala shark or
Gourami) with glazed eyes either in a pet store or in my own tank.
This happened to me one time ... I purchased this Bala shark however
after a week, developed glazed eyes and eventually died even though
the water...

Strange stuff in my filter... by
[email protected]
I just recently purchased a canister filter....REALLY like it....but
Ive noticed a problem recently. In my output line, there aer hundreds
of litle white "dots". If you squeeze the line, they'll shoot out. Is
this alge? or god forbid...snail eggs? Also, Ive noticed a slight
mmildew smell in my...

Florescence - UVA dangerous? by
Dave
Is the UVA dangerous from a actinic blue bulb dangerous to the eye?
a. Either when viewed directly (when lifting tank lid)
b. or when reflected from white rocks/fish or the general glow?
I ask this as I've just fitted one and wondered if there's any danger.
Dave.

Swim Baldder problem. by
Magpieally
Hello
I have got an orando that looks healthy. but when it is swimming and it
stops. It floats to the top of the tank. I have been told this is a swim
bladder problem and that this is because of surface eating. I have changed
the food to a none floating food. but the fish seams to be getting worse...

Filter keeps slowing down by
Molliesncats
Can anyone think of why my Aquaclear 200 keeps slowing to a trickle? I just replaced it because it was outright stopping. Now, the new one (which hasn't accumulated gunk) doesn't seem to really be doing what it should either. The water used to come pouring out smoothly, and now it's reduced to a...

Also, you lot that use external filters, is there anything that i should be

Marine vs. Fresh by
Tom Collins
How much more difficult is salt water to fresh?
I just bought a new 46 gal aquarium. I used to have smaller fresh
water ones (10, 20, 29, 40 gal) years back and got very good at it.
I'm tempted to try salt water this time. The guy at the pet shop
(Petco) said he would help me quite a bit on...

I have a couple projects I would like to try, but Im not sure what

Copper fittings (specifically a solenoid)
I assume there is some silicone/glue for fish tanks to hold...

Mardel test strip accuracy? by
Elaine T
I've always shied away from test strips for aquaria because of problems
I had with pH papers when I was working in laboratories. When I
compared pH test strip readings to pH meter readings, the test strip was
less reliable and would give different readings depending on how I
dipped it.
I was...

Snails......Son of a.... by
[email protected]
I have a problem..... I had a 20Gal tank about a year ago and purchased
a couple snails. Well, they had little snails! And hundreds of them!
Now, I have a 55 Gal tank that WAS sans-snail. I actually boiled my
decorations before putting them in the new tank!
So...I go to petsmart a couple weeks...
