Where is pcv valve on 1987 Lincoln Town car? by J J
The oil change places and I cannot find the pcv valve on the 5.0 liter engine on a Lincoln Town Car. (I assume it would be the same on 87 Ford Crown Victoria) They say its somewhere on back of engine close to fire wall. We cannot see it, and there is not enough space between firewall and...

Best air filters? by J J
Who makes the best air filters? Can you assume the quality of the air filter would be the same as their oil filters?

Engine heat, hood vents by J J
Why do most cars not have any hood vents? In the summer the temp under the hood is very high. (If you want proof, just raise the hood after a summer trip) Wouldn't it make more sense to design hood vents into every car? Wouldn't the entire under hood area benefit if the max temp...

Jeep, Mercedes diesel engine. by J J
I read in the paper that Jeep is going to offer an optional diesel engine. It will cost about $2700. Mercedes diesel engines can last well over 300,000 miles. Surprised that other US companies haven't offered a mercedes engine option.

High mileage fluids. by J J
I see more and more oils, anti-freeze, fuel system cleaners, etc advertising that its for high mileage cars. Do cars with over 75,000 miles really have different chemical needs than newer cars? Or is it all the same stuff in a different package

Lights dim at idol speed. by J J
At idol speed my dash lights and headlights dim. (1987 Towncar, 5L engine) When motor speeds up they get bright again. Thought it was the alternator so got a rebuilt one from NAPA. 3 weeks later the problem still exists. Now the alternator does not charge at any speed. Car has new battery cables...

AC stopped after radiator flush. by J J
1987 Lincoln Town Car. Recently I flushed and replaced my cooling system fluid. After I was done the AC compressor would not come on. It worked fine a few hours before. There is no current at the plug/wire that connects to the top of the compressor. During the flush i disconnected the small...

Smartcar or Dumbcar? by J J
At a local mall they had 4 Smartcars for people to test drive on the mall parking lot. The rep said that Mercedes has invested in it but it has NO mercedes engineering or parts. The thing is made in France by some unknown start up company with zero experience in making cars. France has a history...

Radiator, heater core sealer. by J J
In the past most people thought that the Bar's stop leak in the silver and black bottle was the best. Recently two different NAPA auto parts store managers told me that K&W Nanotechnology was better. It comes in a bright green plastic bottle. They say it has very fine particles and is better at...

Mini cars traction on snow? by J J
Two people with mini cars (Scion AWD, 2005 VW bug) both told me their cars had poor traction on snow. I thought an all wheel drive or a front wheel drive car would be good on snow. Are these mini cars just to light weight for snow traction? Even with my RWD Lincoln Town Car I get better...

Battery cables reversed. by J J
If the battery cables are reversed just long enough to make the spark (1 second) what are the consequences? Is there a fuse fusible link that is suppose to burn out? Are there items that might of been damaged? If damaged would it be immediate? Are there items I should check? Thanks

Vinyl roof protectant: by J J
What kind or brands of vinyl roof protectants are best? Many people have said to stay away from Armourall. It supposedly has a lot of alcohol in it for cleaning, but it dries out the vinyl. I have been using Meguiars natural shine vinyl and rubber protectant. But is it really that much...

Electrical leaks. by J J
Recently I noticed that the left side of the instrument panel was very dim at night. (87 Towncar) I thought that bulbs needed replacing, but I was wrong. While replacing the electric window motor on drivers rear door I had motor and cigarette lighter disconnected. Suddenly the dim dash...

Engine quieter after oil change. by J J
In every car I have owned the engine sounds quieter at idle just after an oil change. But why? If the engine oil is good for 3000 miles or 3 months shouldn't the sounds be the same.?

Preventative part replacement? by J J
I purchased a used 1987 car. Is it better to replace items like starter, alternator, etc before they fail? Part of the problem is that you don't know if the previous owner has already replaced the parts. The NAPA man said don't replace them. Because he has had people replace parts like that and...

Best auto parts store. by J J
Since I was a child I have heard that NAPA is the best place to get auto parts. They are a little more expensive but have better rebuilt and new parts. Also employees are more knowledgeable. Agree or not? For example would a rebuilt alternator, starter etc be better quality if it comes from...

Starter didn't disengage. by J J
1987 Towncar 5.0 L V8. When I cranked the engine, the starter didn't disengage. The starter continued to run and turn engine even after I turned off ignition. I tried to disconnect battery cables but with just pliers couldn't turn them. The other end of the positive cable is attached to the...

Rear window de-fogger . by J J
1987 Lincoln Town Car. Last year my rear window de-fogger (wires in glass) worked fine. This year only the bottom half works. What can I do to fix it? I don't want to put in a new rear window just for that. The rear window was already replaced once just to get defogger to work.

What repair turned into a nightmare? by J J
I have had a number of used cars over 10 years old. Most things I repair take longer than i anticipated. Replacing the fuel injectors on a Datsun 280 Z was a nightmare. Dealer wanted 850 to do it. I could buy the injectors for $29 each. It took me about 7 hours working outside to remove and...

Radiator cap pressure. by J J
My cooling system has a small leak in heater core. (1987 Lincoln Town Car.) Bars Stop leak has reduced it but not completely. If i keep the radiator fluid level about an inch from full, (when cold) it greatly reduces the heater core steam. Which means the cooling overflow tank stays empty. ...
