Aquarists vs Marine Biologists by J R-S
According to dictionary.com, an aquarists is he who maintains an aquarium, in the other hand, a Marine Biologist is a specialist. In other words, anyone that maintains an aquarium good or bad is an aquarist. To be a Marine biologist you have to be a specialist on the field.

What's the best SALT? by Peter Pan
I've been using Instant Ocean since I set up my 75 Gal. FOWLR tank in 2002 and never had a problem. I've read that its not really a good idea to change salt, but if you were to change it, it was a very lengthy process with mixing your current salt with the new stuff until your completly...

How smart are fish ? by Pszemol
I have a problem... in my huge wisom I have covered a side wall of the fishtank with a mirror-foil. Just to cover the unpleasant view behind of the tank... and to get some more light reflected back. Today I let the fish in this new tank... A pair of maroon clowns and hepatus tang get crazy seeing...

Rose anenome splitting by TW
I purchased a rose anemone about 8 months ago. About a month ago I noticed that it was noticeably bigger. It had split in two. I was thrilled with my success. On the weekend it did it again. I now have three rose anemones in my tank. Has anyone had a similar experience? My LFS is licking it...

1 Attachment(s) alkalinity by Dinky
I'm having some difficulty wrapping my brain around alkalinity and it's relationship to PH. Can anyone explain it in "Aquaria for idiots" fashion, or point me to a place where it's explained? I'm starting to feel like I need to take a couple BioChem classes. tia billy --

Bo0ger1, show me your tank... by Pszemol
Booger, I have noticed you ignored several requests from several different people who wanted to see your tank(s) run over a year without a water change... Why don't you show people here your method works ? Is there maybe something wrong with your tank and you do not want to show it ? What are you...

Ich and tang... by Pszemol
I made a stupid mistake and I added some new live rock to an old, established tank without quarantine it first... The effect: my large hepatus tang got ich. I do not want to cure it in the reef and taking it out will be a challenge. I was thinking about getting some cleaner shrimps to eat the...

octopus climbing out of tanks by Nehmo
There are mentions on the web of an octopus climbing out of a tank, traveling across a dry surface, going into another tank, grabbing a fish for a meal, and then returning to their home tank. Some web- comments say there is a video that was on TV. But I haven't found anything like it on the web. Is...

Overdriving NO Tubes by Mort
Is anyone here familiar with overdriving NO fluorescent tubes? I met a DIYer today (Marc, that's the guy I told you about with those5 stage RO/DI units) that does this to his lamps. Apparently you replace the balast with a higher output Electronic ballast (About $10 from home depot) and it can...

Water change reuse? by Ben
G'day all, I've been offered just about everything needed to start up a marine tank. Problem is, we have severe water restrictions here, and I like to reuse the water I take from my tropical tank during weekly water changes, and put it on my lemon tree.... the tree loves it.

hydrometer dilemma by Cindy
I have a new Coralife Deep Six hydrometer that I've been using for the past year or so. But over the weekend I sorted through my trash can full of aquarium supplies, and found my old "The Original" Seatest hydrometer that I've had for probably 20 years. The Coralife reads 1.022, and the tank has...

UV Sterlizer by buff82driver
I have a 75G fish only sal****er tank that if I had to guess has about 30 pound of live rock. Right now its on a really light bio-load with two Marineland filters: Emperor 400 and a canister 350. What size and brand/type of UV sterlizer should I get? I was thinking of a unit to hang off the back of...

Grounding Probe by Pszemol
If you have any device leaking elektricity to the water, and you are affraid of negative effects on your tank inhabitants, the grounding probe will make things even worse. It will INCREASE the current flowing from the failed device to the ground through the water column. Without the probe, the...

On thrid week of patiently waiting while my live rock, live sand, salt water and bacteria cycle. Ph is still 7.4-7.8 I was under the assumption that I should be using distilled water to top off evaporated tank. Then someone told me distilled had a ph of 5. Any suggestions?
