Mobil-1 extended performance 10W-40 -- where? by
F. Baker
Has anyone else noticed that no matter where you look, every grade
advertised of the new Mobil-1 'Extended Performance' synthetic motor
oil is available EXCEPT 10W-40? Are they not producing that grade
yet? Autozone refused to stock it (and won't oreder it either),
Lappens said they might have...

done the following:
Replaced both oxygen sensors 3 times..
Replaced the Cat Converter 2...

Alternate fuels in the UK by
Bret Ludwig
Had lunch today with some Brits. They were saying gasoline, or
"petrol" as they call it, is like $& (US) per US gallon there now. (As
I write this I see regular at $1.99 out my Midwest boring hick town
window.) I know propane is popular there, but wouldn't industrial
denatured alcohol be cheaper...

Wiring driving lights to come on with highbeams by
[email protected]
I just installed a pair of driving lights on my '99 Accord and wanted
to wire them to come on with my highbeams. I spliced into one of the
leads for one of the highbeam bulbs and used that as the trigger for a
relay. Problem is, the driving lights come on with my low beams. What
am I doing wrong?

near Toronto.
Among the vehciles was a 1961 Corvair, which had been conveniently left
with it engine cover open. I hade never seen a Corvair engine in the
metal before, so I studied it for a while. Two questions...

Ford Ranger Oil Pressure Gauge - Sludge? by
[email protected]
I've recently been driving an old reengined 1986 Ford Ranger, I have no
idea what the engine is, the truck says electronic ignition, but this
looks conventional, 2.0 l or 2.3 l. The problem is the oil pressure
gauge (it's the dummy variety - I tested it by grounding the sender
wire - it reads...

Why is Slick 50 still in business? by
Doc
They've been sued by DuPont, had their asses slapped by the FTC for their
snake-oil claims, been outed for marketing a product that has no genuine
benefits and can actually damage an engine, so how do they manage to stay in
business, still making essentially the same claims?

1995 cavalier brakes by
[email protected]
Hi, My 95' Cavalier has 201,000km on it. The rear brakes lock up REAL
easy. It's very unsafe. I have replaced both rear drums and adjusted
the brakes. That made the lockup not as bad, but still unsafe. The
tires will only lock at slow speeds (under 20km/h). But braking from
high speeds I can...

GM 2800, 3400, 3500, 3800 interchangability by
Masospaghetti
Just wanted to know if the 2800 / 3400 / 3500 / 3800 were all
interchangable with each other, or if any of them are. Specifically, was
wondering if any of the latter would swap into 1988 Beretta with the 2800.

What is locking differential and do I need it? by
[email protected]
I'm looking at a new Trailblazer. It has a locking differential. Is
this a good thing or a bad thing? It is not 4 wheel drive. What exactly
does this do, and is it just another thing to break? Are these things
trouble-prone, expensive to maintain, etc.?
Thanks,
Libby

Stripped caliper bolt by
Mike Romain
Good penetrating oil on the threads put on several times over several
hours.
A sharp hit with a heavy hammer while trying to turn it with the grips.
A dremil tool to either cut a slot in it or to flatten two sides so a
wrench can maybe grab it again.
If room, plumbers pipe wrenches are like vise...

I am considering a Mini-Cooper and wondering what the pros and cons are

about maintenance, engine life, repairs, etc.,. I don't have any...

How to remove a stripped timing tensioner bolt? by

Ok, so disassembling everything for my head gasket replacement WAS going

everything off except the intake manifold and cam sprocket. I go to
slack the timing belt, and the bolt head on the tensioner is COMPLETELY
messed up. It...

I bought this truck for my 13 year old to learn about engines. When we

Rebuilt the carb
Replaced plugs and wires
dist. cap and rotar
points
