idiots driving after tyre delamination by [email protected]
I heard a police helicopter, and went outside. Then police sirens and saw a (stolen) Jaguar XJ fishtailing towards me, following by two PPVs. One of the tyres delaminated as it went past me. The Jaguar knocked over a traffic light at the next instersection, obviously couldn't control it very well....

How to tell intake and exhaust valve with the intake manifold on? by BSAKing
I had a heck of a noise going on in my 350 V8 chevy engine. I checked it out and one of the rocker arms was quite loose. I am reading up on how to set the clearance on the lifters. I snag #1 cyl and get it at TDC using the marks on the flywheel. I can tell the cyl # by the stamp on the engine...

driving with a bad lifter? by George[_23_]
'99 Cavalier 2.2L. Per an earlier post, I have what seems to be a bad lifter. It hasn't responded to my theraputic efforts. We've decided not to repair this, given the general condition of the car and the cost of gaskets, etc required to pull the head. But, we need a car in the meantime -...

What's the deal with "quiet" rotors (gray iron, etc) and zinc-plating? by MoPar Man
I've noticed on sites like rockauto there are rotors for sale that are described as quiet. Supposedly there is a type of iron (called "Gray" iron) that has a different microstructure that is less prone to high-frequency brake-squeel noise, but this type of iron is supposedly what most or...

GM 1970s airbags? by [email protected]
GM made a limited run of Chevrolet fleet cars with "ACRS" way back in 1973, 7 years before the Europeans had airbags. Then in 1974 it was offered on Cadillacs and Buicks as an option for people who hated seat belts. But then what happened? Did few people order those airbags, and they faded away...

Buying used steel wheels by geo pearl
hiya, I need to buy four steel wheels for my altima. Tire rack sells them brand new at $60 each. There must be a cheaper way to handle this. Are there any important tips you'd like to share about buying used steel wheels? What's a reasonable price? Thanks.

Leaking headlight assembly by Andy K[_2_]
I have a 2009 Mazda CX-7. One headlight assembly has a leak resulting in moisture accumulation in the lens. If I can dry out the lens, I can use silicon caulk to seal the top part of the lens where I feel the water is coming in from. Cost of a new assembly is way too high at $220+. I thought of...

who would paint a DMC-12? by [email protected]
The DeLorean car. I saw one today in a driveway. It had been painted black, and the guy was stripping it back to stainless steel. Must be a labour of love, as the house was a run-down hovel. I had a look online, and there are 9 for sale, 1 or which is painted red.

What does "urging" a clutch pedal mean versus what is a "treading" force? by Frank Baron
What does "urging" the clutch pedal mean? (And what is this "treading" force?) Everyone with a Toyota-4Runner 3rd-generation manual transmission and similar Toyota Tundras and Toyota Tacomas has a problem that a certain tiny plastic bushing invariably fails within a year or three in the clutch...

airbags (safety not suspension) in trucks by [email protected]
Airbags are not required for heavy trucks. Volvo has driver airbags in new trucks, and Scania even offers side airbags. Now I am curious about these. In a car, the steering wheel is about 10 degrees from vertical. I trucks, the steering wheel is tilted 45 degrees maybe more. So how can you protect...
