How to Test O2 Sensors on '97? by
Ulysses
I have a '97 Explorer, Control Trac, auto trans, and 4.0L OHV engine. I
have error codes PO136 and PO141. I tried to test the O2 sensors as
outlined in my Hayne's manual but am unable to manage to get a wire into the
connector so I can test it. Is there a trick to this? Hayne's says not...

'98 Explorer V8 Spark Plug Replacement? by
Steven Hilgendorf
This is my first Explorer and I'm looking for suggestions, and/or
advice, on the best/easiest way to change the spark plugs on my '98
Explorer V8? Would removing the fender liners/skirts make the job easier?
TIA,
Steven

how to remove steering rack? by
[email protected]
I have a '98 Explorer XLT, and I need to take out the steering rack.
I have a Haynes manual, and it says to disconnect the steering input
shaft; remove the hoses; remove the power steering cooler; separate
the tie-rod ends from the wheel spindle; and remove the steering gear
mounting bolts.
Then...

Brake puzzle by
Anthony Giorgianni[_2_]
Hello All. Sorry for the length of this.
I'm hoping folks here might be able to come up with a theory - or confirm
one of my theories - about what is happening with my 92 Explorer brakes.
Keep in mind that I'm an unusual in how I use the brakes; more on that
later.
ISSUE: I have about 97,000...

Trials and Tribulations on '99 Explorer by
Allan
A very funny sound started to come from under the hood of my '99
Explorer 4.0 EFI with 131,00km.
It sounds like a bad or very dry bearing, it gives off a squealing sound
and other times a chirp. This is intermittent and very hard to detect
where it's coming from.
I thought at first it was the...

Explorer Sport - boots deteriorated on ball joints by
Jean[_2_]
I have a 2001 Explorer Sport (i.e., the 2-door version). I took the vehicle
to the dealership this weekend for some recall work, and the mechanics
showed me the boots on the ball joints -all 4 are totally deteriorated. The
vehicle only has 24K miles on it, so the problem is aging. Despite the
boots...

Tire wear by
4.0L
What kind of tire wear are you getting with your Explorer? I just
replaced the OEM P235/70-16 Michelin Cross Terrains on my 2002 Explorer
and I got 42k miles out of them. They were just approaching the wear
indicators. Amazingly, the tires never had to be re-balanced for the
entire 42k miles and...

96 explorer 4.0 with low fuel pressure? by
:\
I am chasing a very slight consistant stumble at idle. I am getting
28psi off the fuel rail. When I unplug the vacuum hose off the fuel
pressure regulator I get 38psi. Turn truck off and it held 38psi fine
for 20 minutes. I have a new fuel filter....what can cause the low
pressure?? I believe...

2000 Explorer won't start... by
Member
I haven't driven our explorer for a while now...maybe 2-3 weeks. Tonight
(it's raining), I am about to go take it for a drive, and it won't start.
Looks like it's about to start, but it doesn't catch. I try it a few times,
then try the gas with it. It starts....but then dies when I let go of...

OBD2 eader by
Trefor
I'm thinking of buying one of these. Around £25 on ebay.
I know nothing at all about them.
Are the more expensive ones that connect to a PC more useful?
I have a '99 ford explorer, (UK spec, V6), and get the Suspension warning
light, only when
towing my caravan, and only after about an hour. If I...

1991 Ford Explorer Dipstick Breaks by
EJB
I have this explorer that keeps breaking the dipstick when I put it in the
motor. I've replaced the tube and the dipstick both but it keeps breaking.
Right on the tip like its twisting off. Anyone ever had this problem know
what to do about it? I seem to recall newer 4.0l motors had a dipstick...

Rear Windshield Wiper Problem by
John Ahnen
The problem is that the darn thing won't work. We bought this 2000 Eddie
Bauer Edition Explorer when it had 33K miles on it. The wiper worked
intermittently (somedays yes, most days no) when we got it. Once my wife
was able to do some sort of manipulations to get it to work, then it would
not...

difference in the Ford part numbers and wonder if I purchased the
correct belt?

Noise from front end and steering. by
I have 2 problems here. Don't know if they are connected.
1. I have a noise when I turn the steering to the right. It's like something
needs to be lubricated and I can feel it through the steering wheel.
This happens only at very low speeds like 5mph. During the course of turning
the wheel +2...

air conditioner seized by
*selah*
We've got a 92 explorer. The air conditioner motor has
seized and the fan belt is just slipping over it. I assume
this isn't too good for the belt, and also would make the
generator turn more slowly?
It still turns a little sometimes.
Is there a simple way to add oil and unstick it?
