Cooling System Maintenance Questions by
Elle
I am draining, refilling and possibly flushing my 164k miles, 1991 Civic
LX's cooling system tomorrow. I've done it myself at least three times over
the years, but not quite the same way each time. A few questions:
1.
My Chilton's manual says I can "back flush" the system by removing...

Bushing Press (Portable & Home-made) Input Sought by
Elle
I came across this detailed description of pressing bushings
out of suspension control arms using sockets, high strength
bolts and nuts, washers, and muscle:
http://www.maxcooper.com/rx7/how-to/suspension/pillow_balls/index.html
Evidently, sometimes the bolt breaks during this process. I
ran some...

Brake Fluid for Cleaning Bolts? by
Elle
Any reason not to soak old bolts in used brake fluid, wipe
them with a rag, apply, say, anti-seize, then re-install?
My concern would be the water absorbing properties of brake
fluid. But if others routinely do this, then I won't be
concerned.
TIA

Setting Toe by
Elle
Without serious modifications, my 91 Civic (among other
Honda models) permits only one alignment angle to be
adjusted: Toe.
Has anyone here set the toe themselves? If so, what tools
did you use or devise? Was your effort successful as
indicated by tire wear and steering feel?
I have googled and...

Thrown Rod on Isuzu Trooper by
Elle
I tried inquring about this at the one Usenet Isuzu
newsgroup but am not getting any feedback.
Friends of mine have a 2000, 3.5 Liter, 4-wheel drive,
automatic transmission, Isuzu Trooper. While driving it up a
large hill (really, the foothills of a serious Western
mountain range), the car stopped...

Seat Covers by

How have people fared with aftermarket seat covers? These
would be for my 1991 Civic LX. Its driver's seat cover is a
just a bit threadbare at this point.
Any thoughts on those pictured at the link...

Looking at Some Used Hondas by
Elle
As the regulars here know, I have got a kick out of working
on my 1991 Civic over the years. But (1) it has rust around
the gills and I want to look sportier (I surrender to
vanity); (2) I think for the next several years I will
always fear that it has a major engine breakdown yada and I
will...

Ignition Wire Replacement by
Elle
My 1991 Civic's OEM ignition wires are now five years and
66k miles old. The 1991 owner's manual replacement interval
is four years/60k miles. Tegger says he does his on his 1991
Integra at five years, period, though he lives in a northern
climate in Canada (and I like what he says about...

Fr. Lower Inbd Control Arm Bolts (91 Civic) by
Elle
Has anyone had success freeing these without shearing off
the bolt head?
I PB Blastered what I could, then I put some torque on the
bolt head this afternoon. I didn't have a good angle and
didn't want to push it just yet.
The nut on the back side of the bolt appears to be welded to
the frame. I...

.... by about two inches. Car has 175k miles on it and engine
seems in great shape and is maintained pretty carefully IMO
by yours truly. The non-levelness is noticeable when
standing 30 feet or so from the car. Bounce test (pushing on
one side than the other of the front bumper) yields about
one...

Oil Filter from San Leandro Honda? by
Elle
I am probably going to order a few oil filters (and a buncha crush washers
and any other little thing I can think of) online from San Leandro Honda
soon. Its site lists the following three choices for my 1991 Civic:
FILTER SET, OIL (TOYO) $4.78
FILTER, OIL (FILTECH INC.) $5.20

Front Quarter Panel Replacement (1999 Civic) by
Elle
A friend of mine's front driver's side quarter panel (a.k.a. "fender")
became dented in a parking lot hit and run. Her car is a 99 Civic LX.
Has anyone replaced one of these quarter panels? How much time did it take?
Where are the main fasteners?
I am going to dig for a manual but am not...

Gas Tank Level Theory by
Elle
I have been watching my 91 Civic's mileage particularly
closely since about October. This includes, for the
overenthused, watching the fuel tank gage. A few times I
have thought to myself, "Darn, it's reading just about
half-full, and I usually have at least X miles by this
point. The trip odometer...

Given the mountains you may be driving and that winter
oxygenated fuel and winter lower engine efficiency alike may
