Mysterious dead battery in 2000 Honda Accord by woger151
Last weekend my wife reported that the battery was dead in our 2000 Honda Accord V6. I charged battery overnight; started fine after I put it back in. Looked for drains with a multimeter; after a few minutes, current went down to 12 mA, which AFAICT means there's no way it could empty the battery....

Drum brakes - do you disconnect the parking brake cable? by Mad Roger
I haven't done drum brakes ever but I'm faced with these drum brakes where I'd just like to ask a couple of questions from those of you who have done drum brakes before. 1. I released the parking brake from the cabin and screwed these 2-inch long metric 8mm x 1.25mm threads bolts to pull the drum...

Adjust headlight by Andy
My mechanic adjusted one of my headlights because it was out of alignment due to some body work to my right fender. However, only the up/down is adjustable. I wonder why the right/left is not adjustable? I seem to recall in the 70s where both adjustment could be made. Andy

Too goofy? by
With all the problems we have discussed recently about cooling systems, I would like to revisit a question that, I believe, was posted some time ago: Basically, why could not a system be developed that used an electromechanical clutch coupled to the water pump? You might not need a thermostat at...

Brake advice on a 1996 chevy Silverado 4x4 by stryped[_3_]
I have a brake question. I have a 1996 chevy Silverado. I have had it for about 4-5 years. I bought it from my dad. It has 315,000 miles on it. It has always had a soft spongy pedal. Brakes seem to work, but like I said the pedal sinks when holding it. This weekend was a nightmare. I replaced one...

Does side window tinting give glass laminated strength? by Some Guy
I believe that at some point years ago (60's ?) some cars had laminated side glass in addition to laminated front windshields (true?). Anyways, I'm pretty sure that side window glass in moderm cars is not laminated (although I'm sure for the extra $15 it would cost it would sell very well as a...

Idle RPM sensitivity to signalling? by Aaron407
I have a 95 Grand Prix GTP, and if I'm signalling at idle (in gear, my foot on the brakeat a dead stop) my RPM decreases by about 50 RPM when the signal light is lit and cycles back up when it turns off and continues during the periodicity of the signalling. My dash lights also slightly dim with...

Transmission Cooler For Tacoma PreRunner 4 Cylinder 2.7 Automatic Transmission by Tommy Taylor
Is it appropriate to install a TRD transmission cooler (TRD 00602-16491-002) in a 2000 Tacoma Prerunner 4 Cylinder (3RZFE) 2.7 Automatic Transmission with air conditioning? My Tacoma is a 2WD regular cab. I asked a mechanic if he could install one and he said no problem. When he called a Toyota...

What car would you consider, part two by Hachiroku $B%O%A%m%/(B[_3_]
Came to a screeching halt at a Honda dealer today. Now, they had quite a selection of $32-36,000 Crosstours there, but what caught my eye was http://www.cargurus.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/honda-cr-z-21.jpg The Honda CR-Z. Only available as a Hybrid, but the electrics can be turned off...

Compression Test by Dave Skirrow

Disconnecting alternator from car.... by Existential Angst[_2_]
to run on battery only.... Any idea on how much gas this would save? I noticed a substantial increase in my mpg's when my alternator went, on a Mazda 929S -- mebbe 15-20%? If this observation was accurate, it would make sense to hump around a spare battery, and operate without an alternator --...

Polishing my headlights by micky
3 weeks ago I polished my headlight lenses. They came out great. I had replaced a bulb and noticed again how cloudy they were, 2005 car. It took about 2 hours but would have taken less if my back didn't hurt and I had to sit down over and over, and if then I didn't start listening to the...

I'd always thought that any head bolts should be replaced, but even more important for tty bolts. Local nissan tech says no - not necessary. Do I believe him?

Why do cars with automatic transmissions have tachometers? by TLittle
Curious as hell about this. Was taught by the parents to drive in general on a 65 Chevy with an auto tranny. Then the parents taught me to drive a stick on a 67 Dodge 3-on-the-tree Dart. None of them had a tach.

How to align Camshaft Position Sensor? by [email protected]
Is there any way to properly align the camshaft position sensor in a 4.2L V6 (from a 1997 F-150) without having to go out and spend $60 to $100 for a "synchro positioning tool" ??? I hate to spend that kind of money on a tool that I might never need again. TIA, john w.

Does brake fluid have a shelf life? by metspitzer[_2_]
I found some at a relative's house that may be 15 years old. It is in a can with a screw off top. I didn't notice the brand.
