1991 Old Cutlass Cierra, engine stall by Tom
Bought from my Dad low mileage, however notice when warmed up, that the engine will try to stall if you slow down too fast. The X-mission acts like it does not shift down. After sitting a while (cool down) works o.k. Last time we worked on this, we replaced the computer. Fixed issue for 2...

"All right," Gwedif said. "The ientcio is speaking to you now. He formally w elcomes you to the Ionar, wishes you happiness at this moment in your journe y, and presents to you the host of the ship, the crew of the Ionar, and hope s that you will acknowledge them thusly." "What are you talking...

Battery Running Down, But "Everything" Off by Robert11
Hello: Have a '84 Toyota Cressida Waggon as sort of a backup car. Hardly ever used. Put in a brand new battery, and find it runs down after about a week or two just sitting around. Also have a new alternator. Had the battery recharged, and find the same thing still happening.

Question about "Fuel System" by Old_Timer
I have recently purchased a Davis Car CHip to read my OBD data stream. It reports that Fuel System Bank one is running open loop un-initialized. It reports that fule system bank 2 is running closed loop as soon as the temps come up. I understand open loop and closed loop but what does the...

Triumph Spitfire Info. by Steve
I'm looking for a Triumph Spitfire for a conversion project (Mechanics Illustrated Centurion).. This requires a 4 spd w/overdrive (one place it mentions a 5 spd w/overdrive). I don't know much about the OEM drive train in these cars and in the ads, I seldom see a mention of the Overdrive and all...

Cover your car? by [email protected]
I was wondering if covering my new Nissan Altima 2005 would help preserve the value for resale in about 3 years time? I live in the Charleston Area and the weather elements can be pretty harsh to that beautiful silver paint on my car. I stumbled across...

"So, Barbara," I said. "Who did you get to replace me?" "Tom Stein?" he said. "Carl," I said. "You would think these things would be roomier in the front," Joshua said. " But they're not. I spent the last hour squashed down in the footwell. The wo man paramedic had to keep her feet under her."

can I do this??? or do I need another mortgage by Chris
I'm pretty sure I need to change the gearbox on a Skoda Felicia estate 1.6. Its making a horrible grinding noise which goes away when I press the clutch, it isn't the cv joints (I've checked that) the loud click happens about 2 times every second, and if I raise the front of the car off the ground...

head success by Ryan Underwood
Well, it looks like the head replacement was a success. No external leaks and the oil and water are staying segregated and at a full level. Temp is normal @80mph and oil light turns off immediately after starting. This is after a long highway drive and many short drives. The most satisfying...

Engine/emission analyzer recommendations? by Bob Courtemanche
Hello all: I'm looking for an engine and emissions analyzer for personal tuning/diagnostic use. Local smog check places have various older Bear, Sun & Allen "Big Box" units, ranging from free to $1500. Assuming I find something that works, I'd like to be able to maintain it myself, obtain parts,...

Dealer left out 3 quart of oil - advice? by [email protected]
Hi- The local Dodge dealer changed the oil on my Grand Caravan and only added 2 quarts of oil. That was 2 weeks and 400 miles ago. I discovered the shortage last weekend when my wife complained of a squealing sound at startup. I started the van and the squeal was far too metallic to be a belt,...

1981 Cutlass Cierra Olds by Tom
Have you heard about the computer problem in this car? 2 years ago we replaced and it fixed the issue with thought. Problem is back. Engine is chugging. Acts like x-mission will not shift down when you are slowing down. Always happens when hot. Thanks, Tom

91 Mazda 929 brakes by WhiteOut
It's finally time to replace my rotors. I have avoided it for quite a while b/c i recall a while back when i first looked into it, I believe they are part of a whole hub assembly, not just a typical slide-off rotor. I have replaced the pads and bled the lines regularly over the years. Maybe my...

Craftsman electric impact? by Ryan Underwood
Well, I decided it was time to pick up an electric impact at least since it doesn't look like I will be able to afford air anytime soon. Went to two Sears and both of them looked at me quizzically when I asked them for an electric impact. The only choice they had in stock were the DeWalt cordless...

Problem with Blower Control on 2002 Sebring. by Scott_SS
I am having a bit of trouble with my 2002 Sebring, which is just fresh out of warranty, of course. :-) The blower control seems to be the symptom, but apparently not the cause of my issue. When the blower is set to full-on (position 4), all climate controls work normally albeit at maximum output....
