Are there any other bottom feeders/algae eaters that would do well in a
coldwater goldfish tank?

Dojos are good coldwater bottom feeders. Dojo loach = Weather loach.

How about Oto - somethings?

A,
I've heard that plecos will go after the slime coating on a Goldfish.

Otocinclus are tropicals, and delicate as well. I wouldn't try it.

and yes, plecos can go after the slime coat on larger fish (and more).
There are plecos (Vampire pleco, can't recall their sci. name) which have
a reputation for it, and having seen the results first hand, it is truly
nasty. Imagine a depression of 3 sq.in. and 3/8" deep, rasped right out
of the side of a fish.

I dont have to imagine: my Chinese Algae Eater did this exact same thing to
my male Paradise fish - what a disturbing sight - yuk! I couldn't believe
the Paradise Fish just let the CAE suck on him like that in the first place,
to be honest.

I had them in our GF tank, until the GF got really big and ate them.
Somebody in the GF group suggested them - I had never heard of them before,
but now I see them all the time.
