Now we both wish we had put in a 4 or 5000 gallon pond and been done with it..... if and when the liners ever go that's probably what we'll do. wow! thousands??
any chance there would be butterflys in there?? send 'em my way! "Bonnie NJ" wrote in message ink.net... Hi Nedra, Glad to see you back! I must say that I haven't tested the water this year! It is clearing (finally) now that the plants are growing beautifully. I noticed yesterday that I have thousands of baby koi in the large veggie filter - that's something I was hoping to avoid this year. Anyone interested in collecting some koi fry? -- Bonnie NJ "Nedra" wrote in message oups.com... My pond turned a bright green last week from too much feeding of the koi. My test kits were throwing me into a panic. Everything was registering way off the charts. Tried to buy new kits but the only thing I found in both PetCo and PetSmart were the single bottle which measures 5 tests in 1.I pitched a holy fit but went ahead and shelled out the $19.95. This is the best thing to come along in many a year.... for me at least. Anyway my pond took about 4 days to clear but I was able to measure all the parameters in a single ONE SECOND dip on a daily basis. The ease of it ... no bottles, no measuring, etc. Nedra in Missouri Zone 6 |

This new pond will be approx 3x the size of the pond thats there now.......All the dirt that is removed to construct it would be used to build up around all the ponds and prevent any creek water from overflowing into them........ A fellow in FLorida is in th processof making one huge concrete koi pond which is approximately 90 inches deep IIRC.........the center island is his vortex area and it is over 14 feet in diameter........some of his PVC pipes run are 8 inch and 12 inch diameter. He has an entire wall above ground with large viewing windows of approximately 3 x 4 feet in size.......About 2/3rds of the pond is below grade with with the balance above grade, or even with the grade. He just started to fill it about 2 days ago so where waiting to hear how it fares out in regards to leaks around his viewing windows etc............ He used a product whose name I forgot , that is mixed in with stucco or plaster. As moisture gets into it, it changes its properties and becomes unpermeable. It also has self healing properties, so if you get a crack this material will effectively seal any cracks........push come to shove, if it does not turnout to work as advertised, he can always use sanitred or a polyurea on it which from what I understand is his backup plan. ============================================== Put some color in your cheeks...garden naked! You must come and pick them up - no delivery! I'm sure there are some
butterflies in there - the breeding females are 2 butterflies and one white koi. The males are butterfly and koi. At this point you can't tell but I do have a mix from previous spawns. -- Bonnie NJ "*muffin*" wrote in message ... wow! thousands?? any chance there would be butterflys in there?? send 'em my way! They do comment every once in a while about "pond envy" LOL :-D . And the fish do seem to enjoy the room. Today there was a bit of activity with the dragon flies and dainty dragon fly looking fliers, a frog that has moved in, bumble bees and honey bees working the iris. Was nice to just sit and enjoy. :-) W. Dale |
4,000 - 5,000 Gallons. Pond size as a measure of manliness? *wink* C// |

I wonder if anyone can help me with this one. I just got new test kits, brand of Laguna. the nitrite test kits shows results as 0.1 to 3.3 mg/l (ppm) & the nitrate test as 5-110 mg/l (ppm) now the nitrate results look they read right. but what am I missing on the nitrite one? shouldn't that also be in the 1-100 range? not a 0.1? my results show: nitrite 0.4 ph 7.5 ammonia 0 nitrate 5-10 kh 60.. yup I know that is low, I just added baking soda 2 weeks ago I emptied my pond, to clean out the sludge in the bottom,, put back 1/2 the original water ( saved in a BIG container) the rest was rain water from cistern ( figure that is where the low kh is) I was trying to do research on here about nitrites & nitrates, and cannot get a definitive answer on it in my case. I don't have ammonia ( but then I am testing with the nessler (one bottle kind). & have read that if I had nitrates things should be cycling ok. any suggestions?
